About the Role
As our Electrical Engineering Assessor, you’ll support apprentices in college and with employers, helping them make progress towards Gateway and End Point Assessment. You’ll:
- Review evidence
- Carry out workplace assessments
- Complete progress reviews
- Give clear feedback guiding apprentices on next steps
This role goes beyond paperwork—you’ll connect theory to real-world practice, support employers in understanding apprenticeship requirements, and ensure learners develop the correct knowledge, skills, and behaviours.
If you’re an experienced electrical engineering professional looking to transition into education, or if you’re familiar with strong industry experience and want to shape the next generation of engineers, we’ll support you to gain the necessary assessing and teaching qualifications.
Responsibilities
- Support electrical engineering apprentices in both college and workplace settings
- Conduct progress reviews with apprentices and employers
- Assess evidence via:
- Workplace observations
- Professional discussions
- Portfolio reviews
- Guide apprentices through Gateway and End-Point Assessment
- Set clear targets and provide progress-based feedback
- Maintain accurate records using OneFile and college systems
- Identify and support struggling apprentices proactively
- Collaborate with employers to foster competence-building opportunities
- Oversee quality assurance, standardisation, and audit activities
- Keep electrical engineering knowledge current through classroom and industry engagement

Requirements
Essential:
- A recognised qualification in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
- Relevant industry experience within electrical engineering
- Assessor qualification (or willingness to obtain one with support)
- Strong grasp of safe working practices in engineering environments
- Ability to coach, mentor, or support others’ development
- Confidence working with employers and workplace mentors
- Strong organisation and record-keeping skills
- Proficiency (or eagerness to learn) using digital systems
- A basic understanding of apprenticeships, Gateway, EPA, or vocational assessment (we can support your knowledge growth)
Important Essentials (Performing Them Is Mandatory for the Role):
- You’ll need an enhanced DBS check (we’ll organise it if selected).
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusion.
- Willingness to travel across college sites and employer locations.
- Flexibility to work beyond standard hours when required for apprenticeships, employers, or college activities.
- Willingness to gain assessing and teaching qualifications if you don’t already hold them.
