Job Description
Location: Forth Ports Ltd, Carron House, Dock Road
Job Title: Electrical Maintenance Technician
Location: Port of Grangemouth
Compensation: Salary - £37,316 + shift allowance (c.£3000) + on-call payments (c.£1200) + regular overtime opportunities
Earning Potential: £49,000-£57,000+ (including shift allowance, on-call payments and regular overtime)
Shift Pattern: This role operates on a structured 11-week repeating, Monday-Friday shift pattern covering day, night, back and early shift.
- 7 weeks day shift (08:00 – 16:00)
- 1 week night shift (22:00 – 06:00 Sun-Thurs)
- 1 week back shift (14:00 – 22:00)
- 1 week early shift (06:00 – 14:00)
In addition, you will be on-call for 1 week in 10, running from Friday 12:00 to the following Friday 12:00. An on-call allowance is paid as standard, with additional payment per call-out.
About The Role
Forth Ports is one of the UK’s leading port operators and plays a critical role in national logistics, offshore wind support, and heavy industrial operations.
We are seeking a time-served Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our engineering team at the Port of Grangemouth, maintaining and repairing large-scale operational plant and electrical distribution in a fast-moving 24-hour environment. This is an opportunity to work on some of the largest and most interesting mechanical plant in Scotland within a stable employer supporting critical UK infrastructure.
This is a varied, hands-on heavy maintenance role suited to engineers who enjoy fault-finding, breakdown response, and working on some of the largest cranes and industrial equipment in Scotland.
You will be part of an engineering team who support day-to-day port operations, planned & reactive maintenance and projects. The role requires practical problem solving, safety awareness and the ability to work independently to keep plant and infrastructure running.
Typical Duties Include
- Diagnosing and repairing electrical faults on large mobile and fixed plant
- Carrying out planned maintenance, inspections and breakdown response
- Working safely within live operational areas
- Carrying out repairs & maintenance on equipment such as STS gantry cranes, straddle carriers, terminal tractors, empty container handlers, dock gates, electrical distribution from 230V up to 11KV and also low voltage DC systems
- Carrying out electrical installations within warehousing and office environments
- Working at height, outdoors, and occasionally within confined spaces
- Supporting major engineering projects, shutdown activities at our lock entrance and equipment installations
- Using Ultimo CMMS to record work carried out, identify recurring faults and support reliability improvements
- Working closely with mechanical team and operations teams to coordinate maintenance activities
- Contributing to continuous improvement to enhance performance and reduce downtime

What We’re Looking For
- Time-served electrical apprenticeship
- Experience reading schematic drawings preferred
- Competent in electrical fault finding
- Comfortable working shifts and overtime
- Reliable, safety-focused and able to work under pressure
- Experience working via a CMMS/tablet system would be advantageous
- Full right to work in the UK
- Full driving licence, valid in the UK
Experience in ports, rail freight, quarries, heavy manufacturing, steelworks, power generation, bulk handling facilities or mobile plant maintenance environments would be advantageous.
Candidates with transferable experience from other heavy industrial or electrical maintenance backgrounds are encouraged to apply.

Required Criteria
- Served a formal recognised electrical apprenticeship
- Ability to work at height, in confined spaces and in an outdoors environment is essential
- Full right to work in the UK
- Full driving licence, valid in the UK
Desired Criteria
- Previous experience of working within an industrialised environment is advantageous but not essential
- Ideally will have a working knowledge of AC/DC control systems, PLC’s and LV distribution
