About The Role

As the Authorising Engineer (AE) for LV and HV systems on behalf of RME & PFSL, your role will include:

  • Acting as the Duty Holder’s technical advisor, ensuring compliance with statutory safety regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.
  • Appointing and managing Authorised/Competent Persons, maintaining their competence, accreditation, and training standards.
  • Providing technical assurance and expert guidance to mitigate risks.
  • Auditing supply chain compliance and driving continuous improvement through engagement with industry leaders.
  • Rotating in the on-call team to support operational and engineering teams.

About You

Essential Requirements

  • Leadership experience in a compliance-driven business function, preferably in engineering, FM, or operational risk management.
  • Hands-on experience in managing a hard or soft FM operational function.
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver business plans for stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong record of proactively managing industrial relations to maintain a positive working environment.
  • Experience sponsoring and delivering complex technical/operational change projects, with a focus on innovative, out-of-the-box solutions.

Qualifications

  • Degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field (e.g., engineering, electronics, science), or actively working towards one.
  • Up-to-date accreditations in two or more disciplines (e.g., electrical/LV, HV, Building Services (Mechanical/Electrical/Gas/HVAC/Fire/Security)).
  • Membership of at least one professional body (e.g., CIBSE, IET, BNASS).

Day-to-Day Duties

  • Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with operational and engineering teams to ensure electrical safety standards are maintained.
  • Travel requirement: Must be UK-wide mobile due to the national scope of the role. Regular site visits to Royal Mail operational hubs, contractors, and supplier locations are mandatory.
  • Emergency readiness: As an on-call AE, you’ll assist in resolving grounding emergencies, compliance audits, or urgent maintenance issues.
  • Roadshows & training: Represent Royal Mail’s commitment to excellence in technical governance and interact with external stakeholders.
