The Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Electrical Project Engineer to join JFD, working across a diverse product range within the commercial and defence diving sectors where we are a leading technology and service provider. The role spans electrical control and instrumentation for commercial saturation diving—supporting digital diver communications, integrated monitoring and bell control systems—as well as hyperbaric life‑support systems that incorporate high‑accuracy gas analysis and environmental controls capable of operating at high pressures in mixed‑gas environments.
You will also contribute to defence diving products, including electronically controlled rebreathers and tactical delivery vehicles using advanced battery technology and automation, and support the NATO submarine rescue capability delivered by JFD under a long‑term service contract. As part of the Electrical Controls & Instrumentation team, you will provide engineering design solutions and through‑life support, from developing new products to meet client and internal specifications, to maintaining legacy systems and managing obsolescence through targeted upgrades.
What you'll be doing:
- Support engineering design input to new products and provide support to the existing product range by answering queries and providing engineering solutions.
- Sourcing suitable components and materials when required and create part numbers and bill of materials.
- Creation of engineering documentation such as specifications, proposals, assembly instructions, test procedures, certification, and reports.
- Checking detailed manufacturing drawings and documentation.
- Adherence to engineering and company standards and processes.
- Site visits to other JFD offices and client assets as and when required.
- Compliance to internal and external standards & regulations.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
