Electrical Shift Engineer

About the Role

The Electrical Shift Engineer will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical and control systems on production and packaging lines to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform planned preventive maintenance on industrial equipment
  • Diagnose and repair electrical faults on motors, sensors, drives, and control panels
  • Respond to breakdowns to minimize downtime and support production targets
  • Update maintenance records and documentation in line with company standards
  • Collaborate closely with production, engineering, and quality teams to maintain operational efficiency
  • Contribute to root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Support the implementation of best safety practices and regulatory compliance
  • Assist with equipment upgrades, installations, and technical training for shift colleagues
  • Participate in shift handovers and technical knowledge sharing

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience with electrical maintenance and troubleshooting, including:
    • Motors, sensors, drives, and control panels
    • PLCs, automation, and control systems
    • Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings and schematics
  • Proficiency in planned preventive maintenance, fault diagnosis, and root-cause analysis under fast-paced conditions
  • Knowledge of health, safety, and regulatory requirements in compliance with industrial or food manufacturing standards
  • Relevant electrical engineering qualification (e.g., NVQ, HNC/HND, or equivalent)
  • Electrical certification or authorization (e.g., competence Commission, PAT testing)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams across shifts
  • Organizational skills, attention to detail, and independence in high-pressure environments
  • Previous experience in food production, FMCG, or process manufacturing considered an advantage
  • Bonus points for experience in continuous improvement or lean methodologies
