About Lloyds Datum, SOCOTEC and the Infrastructure Division

Lloyds Datum Group was acquired by SOCOTEC UK & Ireland in 2025 and operates as part of the Infrastructure Division. Lloyds Datum and the wider Infrastructure team delivers essential technical services that ensure the safety, quality and compliance of major construction and civil engineering projects across the UK & Ireland. We provide independent asset and construction services to test, survey, assess, report and monitor client requirements. We do this for construction companies and owners & operators of assets across the complete lifecycle of project and asset lifecycles. We work on some of the biggest Infrastructure projects across building, rail, roads, airports, nuclear and transmission & distribution.

We verify strength, durability and performance of key materials, geotechnics, civils, foundations, pavements and structures. Our experts use industry leading methods and advanced technology to support infrastructure projects from initial site investigation through construction and long term performance, helping clients manage risk, meet regulatory standards and build safer, more resilient assets.

Job Description

As an Electrical Systems Engineer, you will play a key role within the Operations team at Datum, supporting the specification, delivery, and ongoing management of advanced monitoring systems across a diverse portfolio of high-profile infrastructure projects.

This role offers exposure to a broad range of hardware and software technologies from multiple suppliers, with a strong focus on integrating these into robust, end-to-end monitoring solutions. You will progressively develop hands-on expertise in designing, building, and troubleshooting systems both in the laboratory and on live project sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the design, specification, and deployment of monitoring systems across multiple projects
  • Integrate hardware and software from various suppliers into cohesive system architectures
  • Assist with the build, configuration, and commissioning of systems in both lab and field environments
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical and system-level issues to ensure reliable performance
  • Support the maintenance and optimisation of online data platforms, ensuring accurate and timely data delivery to clients
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of firmware and system interfaces linking on-site hardware to cloud-based systems
  • Collaborate closely with site teams, project managers, and commercial teams to deliver solutions across the full project lifecycle

About You

  • Background or experience in electrical systems engineering (academic or industry-based)
  • Basic programming capability (e.g. scripting or embedded systems knowledge) is advantageous
  • A structured and analytical mindset with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Comfortable working both hands-on in the field and analytically in a technical environment
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work across multidisciplinary teams

Development & Progression

  • Progress towards a Senior Electrical / Systems Engineer role

Full training will be provided on Datum’s systems and equipment, making this an excellent opportunity for someone looking to grow within a dynamic and expanding business.

Qualifications

  • Background or experience in electrical systems engineering (academic or industry-based)
  • A mix of site and project experience and capability is preferable.
  • Understanding of project commercials is necessary (with a desire to build capability and knowledge in this area)
