Electrical Technician – Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital

About the Role

Location: Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital, NR4 7UY Contract: Permanent, Full Time Salary: Up to £44,397 per annum + Excellent Benefits Patterns:

  • Days Only (8:00 – 16:00)
  • Shift Work (6-week rotating: 6am–2pm / 2pm–10pm / 10pm–6am)

Includes:

  • Additional £1,950 rotary shift payment per 52 weeks
  • 0.5x weekend pay for Saturdays
  • 1x time pay for Sundays and bank holidays (when rostered)

As an Electrical Technician, you will help maintain the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital’s electrical systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient critical services—directly supporting patient care and healthcare operations. You will work as part of a trusted estates team, delivering essential maintenance and repairs while contributing to a resilient hospital environment.


Key Responsibilities

You will be entrusted with:

  • Maintaining electrical services, plant, and equipment across the hospital estate to the highest safety and performance standards
  • Conducting reactive and planned maintenance, including fault-finding, servicing, commissioning, and repairs as directed by estates supervisors and managers
  • Delivering preventative maintenance across a range of essential systems and electrical equipment
  • Ensuring workplace safety at all times—assessing risks, adhering to permits and policies, and escalating concerns when necessary
  • Communicating clearly with colleagues, supervisors, managers, and hospital staff about work progress and service availability
  • Accurately recording work activities and maintenance records using computerised labour control and time and attendance systems

Essential Requirements & Skills

To thrive in this role:

  • Qualified Electrical Workforce: A recognised electrical apprenticeship or equivalent structured training programme must be completed
  • City & Guilds or BTEC electrical qualifications preferred
  • Proven Experience: Successfully working in a similar environment, ideally within large or complex buildings
  • Strong electrical building services knowledge and hands-on technical proficiency
  • Exceptional communication skills and a customer-focused approach

Additional note:

  • Vetting & Checks: A Standard DBS check and Occupational Health Questionnaire will be required for this role.
