Inspire the Next Generation of Electricians
Are you ready to shape the future of the electrotechnical industry? Whether as an experienced tutor or a skilled electrician looking to pass on your expertise, this opportunity lets you help apprentices develop the technical skills, professional standards, and personal qualities needed for success.
At JTL, we’re more than just about qualifications—we prepare apprentices for life and work. Our tutors make learning engaging, instil pride in the trade, and empower learners to become confident, capable professionals. This role lets you see real, day-to-day impact through your teaching and mentorship, making it both challenging and deeply rewarding.
About the Role
As an Electrical Tutor, you’ll deliver high-quality teaching for our Level 3 Installation and Maintenance Electrician apprenticeship programme. This goes beyond simply assessing qualifications—you’ll develop apprentices’ full range of knowledge, skills, and behaviours outlined in the apprenticeship standard.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach with expertise: Clearly explain electrical concepts, building on apprentices’ existing knowledge with a logical sequence to ensure long-term retention and mastery.
- Blend theoretical and practical learning: Deliver both classroom instruction and hands-on training, enabling apprentices to apply their skills in real-world electrical installation scenarios.
- Adapt teaching methods: Use diverse assessment techniques to check understanding, address misconceptions, and tailor your approach so all apprentices can progress successfully.
- Provide developmental feedback: Offer clear, constructive guidance to help apprentices improve, retain knowledge, and achieve their potential.
- Maintain accurate records: Track attendance, punctuality, progress, assessments, and interventions, communicating with Training Officers to ensure support remains effective.
- Integrate essential skills: Embed employability skills, British values, equality and diversity, safeguarding, and health and safety into training, preparing apprentices for professional workplace expectations.
- Present a safe environment: Uphold high standards for behaviour, attendance, and punctuality, fostering a calm and inclusive learning atmosphere in both classrooms and workshops.
- Prioritise safeguarding: Actively support apprentices’ welfare, ensuring their health and safety at all times while upholding safeguarding responsibilities.
- Nurture personal growth: Build confidence, resilience, and a strong work ethic in apprentices, guiding them toward successful careers and community engagement.
- Guide career development: Advise on industry expectations, career pathways, and skills needed to thrive in the electrotechnical sector.
- Collaborate with colleagues: Contribute to improving curriculum resources, share best practices, and innovate in delivery methods.
- Stay current: Keep your own subject knowledge and technical expertise up-to-date through CPD (Continuing Professional Development), industry events, and close employer collaboration.
Reasons to use Rodeo
I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
