Temple University's Department of University Housing and Residential Life is searching for an Electrician II.

Hourly Rate: $37.09

Work Days and Shift Hours: Tues thru Sat, 7:30am to 4pm

Position Summary

The Electrician II position is responsible for the repair, maintenance, investigation, installation, and design of electrical and fire alarm systems. The Electrician must possess strong customer service skills, as there will be direct interaction with students, guests, and their families who have reported concerns about their living space. Demonstrates a professional and ethical approach, as they will often be working within occupied suites or apartments. Diagnoses malfunctions, investigates losses of power, responds to equipment failures, and plans, designs, and installs new electrical circuits in various locations among other related duties applicable to large residential living facilities. Determines what materials and methods are needed to make repairs, completes repairs professionally, and reports issues and safety concerns to a supervisor as required. Must have a focus on high quality work and efficiency. The responsibilities of this role also include, but are not limited to, assisting various skilled craft team members and Service Mechanics in the completion of their work, advising administrative staff making decisions about building design, repairs, and renovations, and adhering to applicable codes and ordinances. Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Details

This position requires the following clearances/checks: PA State Police Criminal Background, PA Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Fingerprint Criminal Background, PA DMV review.

  • Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Must be available on weekends and holidays, to respond to campus emergencies during off-shift hours.
  • Employment for this role is contingent upon successfully passing a drug screen and physical.

Required Education And Experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years verifiable experience as a journeyman electrician.
  • A graduate of a vocational/technical school or accredited apprenticeship program in commercial/residential electricity.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills And Abilities

  • Must have working knowledge of electrical theory and mathematics as applied to the trade.
  • Experience working with voltages up to and including 480/277, fire alarm systems and panels (Simplex and Siemens), intrusion alarms, emergency generators, and lighting control systems.
  • Knowledge of National Electric Code (NFPA 70 and 72) and local, state, and other national/federal building codes related to electrical wiring and equipment, fire alarm systems, and related construction.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from plans, drawings, diagrams, and specifications with an ability to read and write at a level appropriate to the duties of the job.
  • Ability to operate machinery and hand tools associated with maintenance and construction.
  • Ability to maintain a working knowledge of safety protocol related to electrical work including lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Ability to utilize Microsoft Office (Excel, MS Word & Outlook).
  • Adaptability to changing work priorities, meeting deadlines and schedules.
  • Ability to manage multiple collaborative tasks and projects while working cooperatively as part of a team in an environment that often has constant interruptions and distractions.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude, along with the ability to comply with OSHA and other code and safety regulations.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal, oral, electronic, and written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to communicate with a diverse community of students, stakeholders, and UHRL team members.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience working in high-rise buildings.
  • Prior experience working in college housing, hotel, or multi-family work setting.
  • Experience using an on-line maintenance database (Maintenance Direct).
