Job Title: Electronic Design Manager – Hands on
Location: Harlow, Essex
Salary: £60,000 to £65,000 basic + bonus + benefits
Employment Type: Permanent
Working Arrangements: On-site - Some flexibility to WFH

Are you an experienced Electronics Engineer who enjoys remaining hands-on whilst leading a high-performing engineering team?
This is an excellent opportunity to join an innovative engineering business where you'll spend around 70% of your time designing electronics, whilst providing technical leadership and project oversight for a team of four experienced Electronics Engineers.
Rather than micromanaging the team, you'll be responsible for driving projects forward, ensuring delivery against key milestones, supporting technical decision-making and helping shape the future direction of the electronics function.
The Role - Electronic Design Manager – Hands on
Reporting to the Product Manager and working closely with the Managing Director, you'll lead the electronics engineering team whilst remaining heavily involved in the design and development of new products.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Leading and mentoring a team of four experienced Electronics Engineers
- Remaining hands-on with the design and development of electronic hardware
- Managing multiple development projects, ensuring deadlines and project milestones are achieved
- Designing a broad range of electronic circuits, with a strong emphasis on power electronics
- Working across analogue, digital and embedded electronic design
- Providing technical leadership throughout the full product development lifecycle
- Supporting PCB design, verification, testing, EMC compliance and product introduction into manufacture
- Working closely with Mechanical, Production, Quality and Purchasing teams to successfully deliver new products
- Driving continuous improvement across engineering processes and design methodologies
Electronic Design Manager – Hands on. What We're Looking For
We're looking for an experienced Electronics Engineer with both strong technical capability and proven leadership experience.
You'll ideally have:
- Proven experience leading or managing an electronics engineering team
- A broad background in electronic hardware design
- Strong experience in power electronics (DC-DC converters, power supplies, LED drivers or similar)
- Experience across analogue and digital circuit design
- Knowledge of PCB design using Altium Designer or similar
- Experience managing engineering projects and coordinating multiple workstreams
- Understanding of EMC compliance and electronic verification testing
- Good communication skills with the ability to lead technical discussions across the business

Desirable (not essential) experience includes:
- Automotive electronics experience
- CAN Bus knowledge
- Embedded C/C++ or firmware exposure
- MATLAB/Simulink or SPICE simulation tools
- LED lighting or lighting control systems
