Background
Prismatic is a technology development company, specialising in the design, manufacture and delivery of innovative, high value aerospace products and systems. Prismatic is a subsidiary of BAE systems, led by a technically and commercially focused team. Our cutting-edge systems (such as the high-altitude PHASA-35) have clear commercial value, are developed at pace and address critical customer needs.
We are seeking a highly experienced Electronic Design TA to oversee the development and integration of electronics for our High-Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (HAPS) programme. This is a key technical leadership role responsible for delivering reliable, lightweight, and efficient avionics hardware for stratospheric autonomous platforms in a mission-critical aerospace/defence environment.
Tasks and Accountabilities
Reporting to the Avionics Team Lead and operating under delegated authority from the Chief Engineer, you will act as the design authority for avionics electronics hardware. This is an individual-contributor role with no line-management responsibility, combining hands-on design with technical leadership and mentoring.
Technical Leadership
- Develop and release avionics hardware systems, including but not limited to:
- Power distribution and management units
- Flight computers and control electronics
- Navigation and sensor interfaces
- Data acquisition and communication interfaces
- Carry out detailed design on electronics architecture, PCB layout, component selection, and supplier engagement for bespoke avionics solutions.
- Work closely with embedded software and firmware engineers to define interfaces, carry out unit level testing and resolve integration issues.
- Apply appropriate design assurance practices, including requirements traceability, component selection, thermal assessment, EMC considerations, design-for-manufacture, design-for-test, verification planning and maintenance of design records.
- Working with the team, design high level performance electronics for our product which will need to deal with extreme environments.
- Coach and develop team members to continuously develop the avionics design teams’ capabilities.
- Promote a culture of safety, technical integrity, and continuous improvement.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
