Electronic Engineer (Grade 11)

Location: Dundee

Position Summary & Key Responsibilities

An opportunity has arisen within the Engineering team for a Senior Electronic Engineer in the Media Handling department.

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Design, develop, and test embedded microprocessor & microcontroller-based PCB assemblies
  • Design, develop, and document electronic modules and systems
  • Specialist expertise in analogue and digital electronics design
  • Use of schematic capture tools (preference for Cadence Allegro, though not essential)
  • Creation of test specifications and reports
  • Proficiency in soldering, including surface-mount technology (SMT)
  • Troubleshooting hardware down to component level for debugging
  • Conducting hardware unit testing, along with supporting integration and systems testing
  • Providing effort, schedule, and change size estimates to the Project Manager
  • Regular progress reporting on schedule, quality, and size of changes
  • Supporting existing devices through issue investigation, diagnosis, and resolution
  • Mentoring junior engineers

Qualifications & Experience

Essential Requirements:

  • An Honours Degree (Minimum 2.1 or higher)
  • Over 5 years’ experience developing MCU (microcontroller) or FPGA-based products
  • Competence in USB device design and compliance
  • Knowledge of design for EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) compliance
  • Familiarity with analogue and digital design methodologies
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with FPGA design (Verilog/VHDL)
  • Cadence Allegro design workflow
  • Altium Designer knowledge
  • Knowledge of stepper and DC motor control Advanced USB compliance awareness
  • Experience with high-speed interfaces (e.g., DDR, LVDS)
  • Industrial-grade PCB design
  • Broad software development experience
