About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly capable Electronic Systems Engineer to lead and support the system-level design, equipment breakdown, and interconnection of complex electronic systems. This role offers the chance to turn complex functional requirements into fully integrated hardware solutions—crucial to our mission of protecting our nations.

Job Title: Electronic Systems Engineer

Salary: Circa £52,500 - £57,000 (depending on experience)

Working Arrangement: Dynamic (hybrid) – 2-3 days per week inerson-site

Nationality & Security Requirements:

  • British citizenship or dual UK/British national with British citizenship required
  • All successful candidates will undergo HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) checks

The Role

As an Electronic Systems Engineer at MBDA, you will:

  • Design system-level solutions, defining architectures, breaking down equipment, and allocating functions, interfaces, and responsibilities.
  • Develop high-quality technical documentation, including system schematics, wiring diagrams, and interface control documents.
  • Manage interconnects and subsystem integration, ensuring seamless performance across electrical, mechanical, firmware, and manufacturing teams.
  • Collaborate on validation, acceptance testing, and deployment, ensuring compliance with safety, EMC, and regulatory standards.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve system-level issues through root cause analysis.
  • Shape future-proof electronic equipment for operational use, balancing innovation with reliability.

Requirements

To excel in this role, we’re seeking:

Essential Criteria

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.*
  • System-level electronic design expertise, including prototyping, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Proven skills in defining hardware architectures, electrical interfaces, and system connectivity.
  • Familiarity with both analogue and digital electronics and component selection.
  • Ability to create and interpret technical documentation, including system schematics, power distribution plans, and interface diagrams.
  • Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Experience with [SY dominant design tools, i.e further standard state-of-the-art methodologies]**—DOORS, Rhapsody, or MATLAB Simulink (usage of the this is just the tip of the iceberg candidacy).

Desirable Skills (Not Mandatory)

  • Proficiency in power distribution and grounding techniques.
  • Knowledge of key networking protocols, such as CAN bus, Ethernet, HDLC, SPI, I²C, or UART.
  • Experience in EMC/EMI risk assessment and mitigation.
  • Background or familiarity with regulated industries, including automotive, aerospace, rail, medical electronics, or defence systems design.
  • Basic/Advanced knowledge or experience with SPICE simulators.
