Electronic Systems Engineer
Electronic Systems Engineer – Stevenage
We are seeking a highly capable Electronic Systems Engineer to lead and support the system-level design, equipment breakdown, and interconnection of complex electronic systems.
Job Title
Electronic Systems Engineer
Salary
Circa £52,500 – £57,000, depending on experience.
Working Arrangement
Hybrid (2–3 days per week in-office) due to workload classification.
Security Clearance Requirements
- British citizen or dual UK national with British citizenship.
- Essential post-offer check: HMG Basic Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) managed by the MBDA Personnel Security Team.
What You’ll Do
In this role, you'll take ownership of system-level electronic design, including:
- Defining architectures, breaking down equipment and sub-systems into functional interfaces and responsibilities.
- Managing interconnects between subsystems and external equipment.
- Producing high-quality schematics, wiring diagrams, and interface control documentation to ensure robust, reliable designs.
- Collaborating closely with mechanical, firmware, software, and manufacturing teams for seamless integration.
- Conducting system integration, validation, acceptance testing, and compliance checks (safety, EMC, regulatory standards).
- Troubleshooting and resolving root causes in complex system solutions.

What We’re Looking For
Essential Qualification & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- System-level electronic design & integration expertise.
- Proven ability to define architectures, interconnects, and interfaces.
- Strong knowledge of:
- Analogue/digital electronics.
- System schematics, wiring diagrams, block diagrams.
- Technical documentation and problem-solving.
Key Experience:
- Familiarity with design tools (e.g., DOORS, Rhapsody, MATLAB Simulink).
- Clear communication & documentation skills.
- Track record in integration and validation of electronic systems.
Desirable (but not essential):
- Power distribution and grounding strategy experience.
- Protocol knowledge: CAN, Ethernet, HDLC, SPI, I²C, UART.
- EMC/EMI mitigation at system level.
- Regulated industry experience (automotive, aerospace, rail, medical, defence).
- Proficiency in *SPICE simulation software.
