Salary: Up to £61,600 (depending on skills & experience) + benefits

Role Description
As Electronics Design Authority / Principal/Senior Electronics Engineer, you’ll take a leading role in designing high-integrity electronic systems through the full engineering lifecycle, from concept through to integration, testing, and ongoing support.
This role blends electronics design expertise with technical leadership, with a focus on FPGA (VHDL) and systems/subsystem integration. You’ll act as the design authority in your domain, ensuring designs are technically sound, compliant, and evidence-based for safety, performance, and regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities include:
- Guiding design decisions and overseeing technical reviews
- Mentoring junior engineers and maintaining lifecycle oversight
- Managing technology upgrades and obsolescence efforts
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams for system integration and defect resolution

Core Duties
- Lead electronic subsystem/system design from concept to in-service support, providing technical authority and mentorship
- Apply CAE tools for both new high-integrity designs and upgrades to existing products, including obsolescence management
- Design and analyse critical electronics, including:
- ADC/DAC conversion and integration
- Power supply design and decoupling
- EMC-compliant subsystem and PCB development
- Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory requirements (especially in high-power/high-voltage environments)
- Support design verification, system integration, and testing, troubleshooting technical issues
- Create comprehensive technical documentation demonstrating safety, compliance, and fitness for purpose—covering FPGA design, power electronics, and test methodologies
Essential Skills & Qualifications
Experience & Knowledge
- Proven ability to lead hardware design through lifecycle (concept to in-service support)
- Strong technical leadership, including mentoring and design authority
- Deep expertise in:
- Design verification, integration, and defect resolution
- FPGA design and implementation
- Power electronics and power supply considerations
- Product safety, integrity, and EMC-aware PCB layout
- Obsolescence management and technology upgrades

Education & Certifications
- A degree (or equivalent) in Electronic Engineering or a closely related field
The Archerfish Team
Part of the Underwater Electronics team, you’ll oversee full lifecycle electronics management:
- From concept, design, and manufacture to production and in-service support
- Ensuring long-term capability through moderation, technology insertion, and performance improvement
