OpenWorks — Electronics Engineer in Air Defence & eUAS Technologies
The Opportunity
We're seeking an Electronics Engineer with expertise in electronic circuit and PCB design to develop cutting-edge electro-optical systems for Air Defence, counter-UAS (cUAS), Surveillance, and Target Tracking.
Our systems protect critical military and civilian operations worldwide, and seamless integration with partner technology defines whether our solutions deliver a tactical advantage—or save lives. You’ll work in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment, managing multiple projects end-to-end, from design concept to deployed system.
This is hard-edged, responsibility-driven engineering—your PCB design, system optimisation, and hands-on problem-solving will shape production-ready electronics that operate reliably in the real world.
Who We Are
OpenWorks is a fast-growing defence technology firm based in the North East of England. Building on a legacy of innovation, we create ultra-high-performance solutions for:
- Real-time detection, tracking, identification, and targeting of drone threats (aircraft, swarms, and malicious UAS).
- Military and civilian protection, supporting law enforcement and high-profile assets globally.
Our team operates within a dynamic, mission-driven culture, combining engineering excellence with impactful defence solutions.
Why Join Us?
Here’s what makes working at OpenWorks **rewarding—**and exciting:

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
Start with a chat, not a search bar
Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
