ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Electronics Engineer will work within the Software & Electronics team to develop a range of hair care and beauty appliances for a successful and growing company which preserves the original dynamic and start-up atmosphere and is backed by one of the largest private equity companies in the world.

The successful candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and will take a high-level ownership of their technical work. They will be delivery-focussed and take direct responsibility for their output. They will generate high quality work and show high attention to detail.

LOCATION

This role will be based in our Cambridge office.

JOB ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Potential to lead (depending on experience) new electronics hardware development projects with hands-on involvement in specification, design, implementation, and test.
  • Participate in improving internal hardware development processes, working with the Head of Software and Electronics.
  • Support EMC design, testing, and compliance activities.
  • Carry out product testing (functionality, reliability, and safety).
  • PCB rework and prototyping.
  • Liaise with mechanical engineers to ensure good mechanical fit of the electronics.
  • Take ownership of work packages (size depending on experience), providing regular updates and ensuring deadlines are met.
  • Liaise with external suppliers and contract manufacturers.
  • Assist or develop test procedures for lab and manufacture testing.
  • Creation of test reports to a professional standard.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential:

  • An experienced electronics engineer with knowledge of embedded systems for high-volume electronics or similar.
  • Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of the fundamentals of electronics engineering (analogue, SMPS, EMC/EMI, PCB).
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team to fault-find and provide solutions to engineering issues.
  • PCB Design & Schematic capture using Altium or willingness to learn it.
  • Familiar with test equipment including thermocouples, infrared cameras, oscilloscopes, DMM, current probes, and power supplies.
  • Energy and enthusiasm for product development working in a highly dynamic environment.
  • Interpersonal skills to allow effective engagement with multiple stakeholders within the business.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Electronics Engineering or a related discipline.

Desirable:

  • Experience in any of the following areas is beneficial, but not essential. We do not expect candidates to have experience in all of these:
    • Analogue (op-amp, mosfets, transducer circuits) and digital electronics (board level, including interfacing protocols such as I2C, SPI) design.
    • AC electronics: AC/DC PSU design, TRIAC circuits.
    • Design of BLDC motor drive circuits, characterisation/tuning.
    • PCB Layout up to 6 layers, including Flexi and Flexi rigid.
    • Design for EMC as well as experience with EMC testing.
    • RF (Bluetooth) design, including antenna matching and selection.
    • Experience with safety and circuit protection
