Electronics Engineer

Power Systems Engineer – Electronic Design Lifecycle

About the Role

The Power Systems Engineer will be responsible for the full lifecycle of electronic design, ensuring seamless integration of AC/DC and DC/DC power supplies into complex systems. This position requires strong analogue/digital integration expertise, as well as a systems-oriented approach to design, validation, testing, and manufacturing support.


Key Responsibilities

Electronic Design & System Integration

  • Take ownership of the complete electronic design lifecycle, including:
    • Schematic design & PCB layout
    • Prototyping & verification
    • Transfer to manufacturing & production support
  • Integrate power supplies (AC/DC and DC/DC) into larger electronic systems:
    • Ensure correct functionality, performance, and compliance
    • Define power architectures (distribution, protection, grounding, interfacing)
  • Develop and validate analogue control & monitoring subsystems:
    • Voltage/current setpoints, feedback loops, sensing circuits
    • Signal conditioning, noise mitigation, and robustness
  • Interface power systems with digital controls and communication protocols:
    • PMBus, CANopen, Modbus, and SCPI for configuration, monitoring, and coordination
  • Perform system-level analysis:
    • Efficiency, stability, thermal performance, and fault conditions
  • Design and review schematics, supporting PCB layout:
    • Focus on signal integrity, EMC, thermal performance, and manufacturability

Prototyping, Testing & Validation

  • Conduct prototype bring-up, system integration, and debugging:
    • Fault-finding at component level
  • Plan and support EMI/EMC testing:
    • Pre-compliance validation, issue mitigation strategies
  • Apply thermal design principles for reliability:
    • Optimisation across operating conditions

Documentation & Quality Management

  • Produce and maintain technical documentation:
    • System specifications, interface definitions, design records
    • Test procedures & DFM (Design for Manufacture) guidelines
  • Support manufacturing introduction (DFM, test, production issue resolution)
  • Drive continuous quality improvement:
    • Root cause analysis of field issues

Collaboration & Teamwork

  • Work cross-functionally with:
    • Mechanical, firmware, systems, and manufacturing engineers
  • Contribute to multidisciplinary projects while operating independently

Requirements

Technical Skills & Experience

Required

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering (or equivalent experience)
  • Strong analogue & digital electronics knowledge
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • AC/DC & DC/DC power conversion systems
    • Full product lifecycle (from concept to manufacturing)
    • Analogue signal interfacing (voltage/current control/measurement)
    • Digital control signals (TTL/logic-level I/O)
    • Industry protocols: PMBus, CANopen, Modbus, SCPI
    • Power distribution, grounding, and protection strategies
  • EMC principles: Testing (pre-compliance), mitigation, and design best practices
  • Thermal management expertise
  • Strong troubleshooting & fault-finding skills (down to component level)
  • Proficiency with:
    • Oscilloscopes, power analysers, electronic loads, and spectrum analysers

Desirable (Bonus Skills)

  • Knowledge of embedded systems and firmware-controlled power schemes
  • Experience with closed-loop control and PID algorithms
  • Familiarity with system-level monitoring/diagnostics and telemetry
  • Product certification expertise (e.g., CE, UL, IEC compliance)
