Electronics Engineer
Electronics Engineer – Southampton Port (Port Operative)

Now, we’re recruiting an experienced Electronics Engineer based in Southampton, where you’ll work in a team of 4 to deliver preventative and reactive maintenance across a wide range of electronic assets, including radar systems, VHF Radio equipment, CCTV networks, X-Ray systems, and access control technology.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the team, you’ll:
- Perform maintenance and fault-finding across:
- Plant & equipment (airbridges, cranes)
- Radar systems
- CCTV infrastructure
- Access control & X-Ray/Archway equipment
- VHF radio stations
- Weather & tide station systems
- Buoy monitoring systems (e.g., fog signals)
- Miscellaneous electronic systems
- Conduct electronic testing, inspections, and remedial work down to component level
- Ensure compliance with safety protocols, including:
- Updating risk assessments
- Following ABP’s safe systems of work
- Managing administrative paperwork and updating system records
- Travel across the port estate (requires a full UK driving licence)
- **Work at heights >30m and in/on water environments
- Support a 1 in 4 on-call roster for 24/7 emergency coverage
- Work regular shift hours under a structured roster

Skills & Experience
To succeed in this position, we’re looking for:
✅ Essential
- HNC in Electronics (or equivalent)
- Proficiency working at heights >30m
- Full UK driving licence (essential for port-wide travel)
- Flexible approach to shift work (including on-call rotations)
✅ Ideal but Not Required
- Technical knowledge of:
- Radar & VHF radio maintenance
- CCTV & X-Ray security systems
- Software integration and tide/weather station programming
- PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers)
- Network systems
