Location: Cambridge (Onsite Only)

About the Role
Join a fast-growing tech company where your designs will power real-world products used by thousands. We're looking for a hands-on Electronics Hardware Design Engineer who thrives on solving complex problems, designing from scratch, and delivering market-ready solutions to mass production standard.
An immediate piece of work involves enhancing the audio functionality of an existing product encompassing hardware changes and PCB re-routing to commercial mass production quality. This will form the basis of your initial confirmation in role.
You must be able to design hardware from requirement to mass production standard, including EMC compliance, etc.
You DO NOT need to necessarily have the ability to design firmware from scratch but be able to make modifications or add features to existing code base. Must be willing to learn the required skills on the job.
Who You Are
You are a motivated and passionate engineer with a strong interest in electronics hardware design. You enjoy building and simulating circuits and have a good intuitive understanding of discrete components. You're organised, methodical, and take pride in doing things well.
You love troubleshooting circuits and always seek to understand the fundamental root cause when things don't work. You're capable of taking a design from requirements through to final production-ready hardware, and you understand the need for good documentation — you don't see it as an impediment. You're a team player who enjoys bouncing technical ideas with colleagues.

Whilst this is primarily a hardware role, you'll be working in a close-knit engineering environment where some exposure to firmware is inevitable. You won't be expected to write firmware from scratch, but you should be comfortable making modifications or adding features to an existing codebase, and be willing to develop these skills further on the job.
What You Bring
- Hands-on experience in electronics hardware design
- Degree in Electronics Engineering (industry experience is valued above postgraduate academic qualifications)
- Proven track record designing commercial products to mass production standard, including EMC compliance
- Strong skills in schematic capture and PCB layout (Mentor Graphics PADS or similar)
Technical Expertise:
- Experience designing electronic circuits for commercial products.
- Proficient in Schematic capture & PCB Layout software, using Mentor Graphic PADs (preferable) or similar tools.
- A demonstrated working knowledge of hardware design skills, especially:
- Transistor-level circuit design.
- Low-power DC-DC SMPS circuits (under 50W 25W).
- Various LED drive circuits.
- Standard high-speed microcontroller communication circuits (SPI/ USB / etc).
- General analogue electronics design including small signal handling and processing for input into microcontrollers.
- Good prototyping skills, ability to solder fine pitch components and use common lab equipment (digital oscilloscope, spectrum analyser, etc).

Main Responsibilities
- To take full ownership of electronics hardware to deliver complete electronics solutions, from concept to final product.
- Hand-on roles that involve detailed design, development & testing of electronics hardware all products.
- Organize and manage EMC testing to ensure products pass EMC test. Including onsite visits to test labs, rapid iteration to test various fixes and fundamentally finding viable solutions to meet EMC requirements.
- Creation and maintenance of a complete set of design documentation (schematics, design notes, BOMs, PCB fabrication & assembly files, validation and verification documentation, etc).
- Troubleshooting faults at code, component and system level. Investigation and root cause analysis of problems and finding solutions.
