What We're Looking For
You're a hands-on engineer who's comfortable being handed a problem and running with it. You've delivered complex PCB designs before - not just contributed to them - and you know the difference between a design that works on the bench and one that survives production and the field.
You'll own the full design lifecycle for sophisticated electronic hardware - from requirements through to production - working largely independently and making real technical decisions that shape the products we ship.
That Means
- Designing hardware that has to work:
- PCBs featuring high-speed digital, FPGA platforms, switch-mode power, and mixed-signal circuitry, laid out in Altium to production-ready standard
- Solving hard problems
- Independently diagnosing issues using structured root-cause analysis and the full range of lab equipment, from oscilloscopes to spectrum analyzers
- Thinking at system level
- Understanding how your design choices ripple through EMC behavior, thermal performance, firmware integration, and long-term reliability
- Taking it all the way
- From compliance and certification through to manufacturing handover, you own the outcome
- Working with top talent
- Collaborating directly with firmware, systems, and mechanical engineers to make sure the full product hangs together
- Raising the bar
- Supporting and mentoring junior engineers, contributing to design reviews, and actively improving how the team works

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

- Solid experience with Altium Designer - schematic capture through to layout
- Confidence diagnosing hardware with real lab equipment and structured fault-finding techniques
- Experience taking designs through the full lifecycle, including HW/FW integration and manufacturing transition
- The judgement to make well-reasoned trade-off decisions and explain your rationale clearly
Bonus Points For
- Python or C scripting for test automation or data analysis
- FPGA development experience (VHDL)
- Familiarity with EMC compliance standards or reliability methods (FMEA, derating)
