**Senior School Administrator – Special Education/Behavioral intervention Coordinator (Full-Time, Tenure Track/Probationary Position)
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior School Administrator position focuses on leading special education programming and behavioral interventions. Reporting to the building principal, this role ensures compliance with federal/state special education laws (IDEA, ESEA), manages Individualized Education Program (IEP) implementation, works collaboratively with parents, staff, and external agencies, and creates inclusive, equitable learning environments for all students.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructional Leadership
- Direct oversight of LRE (Least Restrictive Environment) placements, ensuring students receive services in the most inclusive settings possible.
- Collaborate with special education teachers, behavior interventionists, and general educator teams to develop and refine BEPs (Behavior Education Plans), IEPs, and 504 Plans.
- Train staff on evidence-based special education strategies, including ABA, DEA (Discrete Trial Analysis), restorative justice practices, and trauma-informed care.
- Supervise paraprofessionals, assistants, and aides assigned to special education programs.

Administrative & Compliance
- Monitor compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and district-wide special education policies.
- Coordinate district-level special education audits, PSSP (Preliminary Statements of Specialized Programs), and RSP (Related Services Plan) reviews.
- Partner with external agencies (MI School-Age-Care, DDA, state and federal contractors) to secure resources for Indian education/Get Soothing grant compliance.
Community Engagement & Advocacy
- Serve as a primary advocate for families, addressing concerns regarding IEP goals, behavioral supports, and related services.
- Lead family training workshops on advocacy skills, IEP participation, and schoolboard engagement.
- Act as a liaison between special education teams and locally constructed exceptional student education advisory committees.
Behavioral Intervention
- Develop and implement the school’s Prevention & Intervention plan for students with behavioral challenges.
- Collaborate with the 211 Threat Assessment Team (or equivalent) to addressهـat student risk and safety concerns.
- Provide expertise in function-based interventions, anxiety/social-emotional supports, and auto-regulatory techniques.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
- Current Michigan Tier II or above-level principal certificate with minimum 4 years of administrative experience, with at least 2 years dedicated to special education leadership.
- In-depth understanding of concentrated, familiar approaches to ABA/DEA or special education law (experience with IEP writing/ED data taken as a plus).
- Track record of performance management in environments with high student mobility or behavioral needs.
- SIM Lead capabilities preferred.
