About the Department

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Thurrock School Admissions and Children’s Transport Team. This service collaborates with key internal and external partners—including parents, transport operators, schools, headteachers, and other local authorities—to ensure fair and legally compliant allocation of home-to-school transport support.


About the Role

The postholder will assist in assessing eligibility and processing home-to-school transport applications, covering both mainstream and special educational needs (SEN). Core responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the assessment of eligibility and processing of all transport applications
  • Advising parents on home-to-school transport provisions, making robust and well-evidenced eligibility decisions while adhering to policy
  • Handling challenging discussions around transport eligibility, managing conflicts professionally, and escalating to senior staff when required
  • Assisting in compiling appeal case papers, ensuring accurate and thorough documentation is submitted
  • Responding to written and telephone enquiries from internal and external stakeholders efficiently

What We Are Looking For

We seek a candidate capable of handling a dynamic and results-driven workload with the following attributes:

  • Ability to thrive under pressure while meeting statutory deadlines in a high-visibility service
  • Strong knowledge of the legal framework governing home-to-school transport
  • Demonstrated expertise in high-standard customer service within a high-pressure environment
  • Preferable but not mandatory: previous experience working in a Council Home-to-School Transport Team

DBS Requirement: A Standard (DBS) check is essential for this role.
