Elixir Software Engineer

Elixir Software Engineer – Driftrock

Driftrock is hiring an Elixir Software Engineer to join our product team and help build the marketing technology that powers vehicle sales for some of the world's biggest car brands.

Quick Facts

  • Team: Engineering
  • Reports to: Engineering Team Lead
  • Location: Remote (UK or abroad, with a few hours of daily UK overlap)
  • Contract: Full-time, permanent
  • Salary: £45,000–£60,000, plus share options
  • Start date: As soon as we find the right person

Why This Role Exists

Driftrock’s product runs on a pragmatic Elixir and Phoenix LiveView stack, solving real marketing challenges for our B2B customers. As more global car brands come on board, we’re scaling our engineering team and processing higher volumes of customer data. Currently, we’re building lead qualification across communication channels and unifying it in our Single Customer View, while optimising our event-driven architecture for growing demands.

You’ll join a small, high-discipline team, shipping code to production from day one, and earning greater ownership as you progress. We invest in your development, and teammates actively support your growth while raising mutual standards.

What You’ll Own

You’ll drive the delivery of features within your squad, shipping well-tested, production-ready Elixir that moves the product and customer results forward. With time, you’ll take on more scope and ownership, shaping how we solve problems.

Your First 90 Days

  • Day 30: Comfortable in the codebase and domain, paired with the team, shipped small production changes.
  • Day 60: Independently tackling features, writing tested code, and participating in technical/product discussions.
  • Day 90: A productive, trusted squad member, shipping regularly and influencing how we approach challenges.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build and ship product features end-to-end, using Elixir and Phoenix LiveView, 2–3 times weekly.
  • Write well-tested, maintainable code, following TDD and collaborative practices (pairing, code reviews, retrospectives).
  • Influence the how and why of decisions, contributing to technical and product discussions and roadmaps.
  • Work with event-driven architecture, building services powered by APIs, RabbitMQ, and high-scale data flows.
  • Use data and observability to validate production impact and customer value.
  • Grow your expertise, with seniority and learning guided by peers who prioritise craftsmanship.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

What You’ll Bring

Core Requirements

  • Strong foundation in computer science (degree or equivalent experience: data structures, algorithms, system design).

  • Professional backend experience, ideally with Elixir, Erlang/OTP, or functional languages like Ruby, plus passion to deepen Elixir skills.

  • Familiarity with server-rendered UIs (e.g., LiveView with TailwindCSS).

  • Proven ability to write tested, documented, and maintainable code, along with commitment to continuous delivery, TDD, pair programming, and retrospectives.

  • Data-driven mindset: measured value for customers and end users, not just shipping features.

  • Judgmentous use of AI tools, supplementing (not replacing) technical expertise—no blind adoption of unchecked outputs.

  • Desire for collaborative growth in a close-knit team.

Bonusérience

  • Production experience with Elixir, Erlang/OTP, Phoenix, or LiveView.
  • Background in Ruby or other functional languages.
  • Prior work with event-driven systems (RabbitMQ), PostgreSQL, or Redis. -iché with Kubernetes or Google Cloud.

Note: Not checked all boxes? Still worth applying!
