Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT
This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for an Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices/IoT based in United Kingdom.
This role offers the opportunity to work at the intersection of embedded systems engineering, Linux internals, and real-world device deployments across industries such as automotive, robotics, industrial systems, medical devices, and consumer electronics. You will act as a technical bridge between complex customer requirements and robust Linux-based solutions, helping design, adapt, and deploy secure and scalable operating environments for connected devices. The role combines deep technical problem-solving with customer-facing engagement, making it ideal for engineers who enjoy both hands-on system work and high-impact collaboration. You will work closely with advanced Linux technologies spanning boot systems, firmware, packaging, and embedded distributions. The environment is highly technical, globally distributed, and built around autonomy, ownership, and continuous learning. This is a chance to influence how Linux powers mission-critical devices at scale while working on cutting-edge IoT and embedded challenges.
Accountabilities
- Engage with customers during presales and technical discovery phases to understand requirements and translate them into viable embedded Linux solutions.
- Design, adapt, and deliver embedded Linux systems for devices and IoT environments, ensuring performance, reliability, and security.
- Work across the Linux stack, including boot processes, firmware, BIOS/UEFI, Secure Boot, and distribution packaging.
- Contribute to the development, integration, and debugging of embedded systems using technologies such as Yocto or Buildroot.
- Support delivery of customer projects, acting as both a technical advisor and implementation contributor.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex system-level issues across hardware and software layers.
- Communicate market and customer needs back to internal engineering teams to influence product direction and improvements.
- Collaborate with global teams to ensure consistent delivery of robust, production-grade embedded solutions.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.
