Embedded Software Contractor
Embedded Software Engineer | Outside IR35 | Cambridge
The client requires experienced embedded software engineers to develop and deliver specialised firmware components for an embedded Linux platform.
Key Role Requirements
Applicants with recent experience in embedded Linux development are strongly encouraged to apply.
Scope of Responsibilities

Develop embedded Linux firmware for compatible hardware platforms (including Texas Instruments [OMAP] and [NXP iMX6])

Drive kernel configuration, operating system (BSP) updates, and thorough device driver enablement

Implement software to support:
- Platform bring-up
- Peripheral integration (UART, SPI, I2C, PCIe)

Ensure smooth integration of firmware with existing system components

Diagnose and resolve technical issues across:
- Hardware errors
- Software faults
- Interface bottlenecks

Compile technical documentation including:
- Firmware and peripheral design specs
- Test plan execution proposals
- Release documentation

Deliverables
✔ Fully functioning embedded Linux firmware components (kernel, BSP, and drivers)
✔ Modified/enhanced software modules to improve system performance
✔ Developing
- Software design specifications
- Test specifications (unit, integration, and system-level)
✔ Evidence-based validation traces including:
- Unit test results
- System-level proofs
✔ Technical reports based on:
- Root cause analysis for all fault discoveries
- Resolution implementation outcomes
