Embedded Software Engineer
# Embedded Software Engineer – Deep Sea Electronics Ltd
We’re looking for a skilled Embedded Software Engineer to join our engineering team at Deep Sea Electronics Ltd. You will design and deliver high-quality embedded software for industrial control and automation applications, focusing on real-time control, industrial communications, and functional safety (IEC 61508/IEC 62061). Your work will support critical environments in power generation, manufacturing, utilities, and process industries, spanning the full product lifecycle—from requirements and architecture to implementation, verification, certification, and field support.
Requirements
Very strong candidates should exhibit the following:
- Proficient in C/C++ for microcontroller development in embedded high-performance systems
- Functional Safety Expertise: Familiarity with:
- IEC 61508 and IEC 62061
- Safety concepts (SIL, SFF, PFH)
- Safety planning and verification (SRS, HARA, FTA, FMEA)
- Industrial Automation Knowledge:
- Basics of control theory (PID, sensor/actuator principles)
- Signal processing and conditioning
- Electrical principles for embedded systems
- Development Methodologies:
- Stage-gated or Agile development approaches
- Ability to collaborate closely with electronics engineers on embedded systems design
- Software & Tooling Experience:
- Development with Real-Time Operating Systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, etc.)
- Coding with unit tests (e.g., Google Test)
- Usage of CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI)
- Source control tools (Git) and bug tracking (e.g., Jira)
- Education & Certifications:
- Minimum Bachelor’s (BEng) degree or higher in Electrical & Electronic Engineering or related field
- Soft Skills & Mindset:
- Committed to high-quality standards
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to break down tasks with clear work estimates
- Confident requirements translation into technical specs
- Thrives in a high-pace, collaborative environment

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Software Development & Real-Time Control
- Design and implement C/C++ software for embedded systems, spanning bare-metal and RTOS environments (e.g., FreeRTOS, Zephyr)
- Develop real-time control algorithms (e.g., PID, state-based logic) for sensors, actuators, and power systems in industrial contexts
- Create work breakdown structures (WBS) and package tasks for execution in Jira, aligning with high-level project plans
Industrial Communications & Integrations
- Integrate embedded control solutions with industrial equipment and software:
- PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems
- Implement and validate industrial communication protocols:
- Modbus (RTU/T,fCP), CAN/CANopen, J1939, Ethernet/IP, PROFINET
- OPC UA, RS-232/RS-485
- Work with serial communication protocols and error handling for field applications
Functional Safety & Validation
- Apply functional safety best practices in line with:
- IEC 61508 / IEC 62061 compliance
- SIL determination, Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS)
- Hazard/Operability Analysis (HARA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
- Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA)
- Generate verification evidence and qualify certifications for regulatory compliance

Software Quality & Testing
- Adhere to coding standards (e.g., MISRA C/C++)
- Perform static analysis, code reviews, and unit/integration testing
- Author test plans and carry out functional verification & validation (V&V) activities
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing
- Compile and maintain technical documentation:
- Software architecture, design descriptions
- Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
- Safety Lifecycle Artefacts (AHF, PL, PFD)
- Participate in design reviews, internal brown-bag sessions, and mentorship
System Integration & Field Support
- Assess system integration during commissioning phases
- Provide on-site troubleshooting support at parent company facilities or customer sites (international travel required)
- Resolve field defects during sustaining and targeted product enhancements
Process Improvement & Team Growth
- Contribute to the optimization of development workflows:
- Git integration, CI/CD, Jira processes, code reviews
- Mentor junior team members and facilitate knowledge transfer through documentation and training
