Looking to swap client service for genuine commercial influence?

This is an opportunity to move beyond advising clients and become the trusted tax adviser to a major international business.

You'll take ownership of a significant and complex Consumer Lines portfolio across EMEA, partnering directly with senior stakeholders to shape commercial decisions before they're made. From launching new products and entering new markets to negotiating contracts and navigating changing tax legislation, you'll be the person the business turns to when the answer matters.

This isn't a role where you'll sit in the background reviewing returns. It's about being at the table, influencing decisions and providing commercially astute indirect tax advice that enables the business to grow while remaining compliant across multiple European jurisdictions. The opportunity is based on the uploaded role profile and your additional brief.

The Opportunity

Reporting to a highly supportive Senior Manager, you'll lead all indirect tax matters relating to the Consumer Lines business whilst also becoming involved in a wide variety of strategic EMEA tax projects.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.

Only hits

No noise. No "maybe this fits." Just roles with a clear explanation of why they're right — and where to focus when applying.

You'll partner with senior management, legal, finance and commercial teams, helping shape decisions around:

  • New products and propositions
  • Expansion into new markets
  • Commercial contracts
  • Business change initiatives
  • Cross-border transactions
  • VAT, and wider indirect tax risks across Europe

You'll become the recognised internal adviser for your business area—someone who is comfortable challenging, influencing and guiding senior stakeholders with confidence.

Who we're looking for

This role will particularly appeal to:

  • An Indirect Tax Manager / Senior Manager looking for a commercially focused role.

  • A professional qualification (CTA, CA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent)
  • Strong VAT/Indirect Tax advisory experience
  • The confidence to engage directly with senior business leaders
  • Commercial awareness and pragmatic problem-solving skills
  • The ability to balance technical excellence with practical business advice

Whilst compliance experience is certainly beneficial, this is fundamentally an advisory-led position rather than a compliance role.

Why make the move?

  • Work on genuinely interesting, commercially significant projects
  • Become a trusted adviser to senior leadership—not just another external consultant
  • International exposure across EMEA
  • Complex Consumer Lines business with plenty of variety
  • Collaborative, high-calibre tax team with an excellent reputation
  • Clear opportunity to broaden your experience beyond pure advisory work
  • Hybrid working (Monday, Wednesday & Friday in Glasgow office)
  • Salary up to £80,000 plus an excellent benefits package

If you're an ambitious Indirect Tax Manager or Senior Manager looking for a move where your advice genuinely influences business strategy—not just tax compliance—this could be one of the strongest first moves into industry available in the Scottish market.
