Emergency Response Dispatcher
Dispatcher – 24/7 Emergency Call Center (PRN/As Needed)
Location: St. Marys Regional Hospital Work City: Grand Junction Work State: Colorado
This role is part of a 24/7 call center supporting critical emergency communications. Dispatchers serve as the first point of contact for medical, facility, security, and weather-related emergencies while providing excellent customer service.
About the Role
A Dispatcher in Intermountain Health’s call center manages PBX functions and plays a vital role in emergency response, including medical, security, and weather-related events. Operating continuously (7 days a week, 24 hours a day) across multiple Intermountain locations, this position requires precision, rapid decision-making, and excellent communication under pressure.

Schedule & Availability
- PRN/As Needed shifts
- Must be available to cover weekends, on-call shifts, and mandatory overtime as needed
- Ability to respond to alternative on-site locations during emergencies
Key Responsibilities
Core Functions
- Answer, document, and dispatch emergency line calls according to protocols
- Route calls efficiently to internal teams (patients, providers, caregivers, or the public)
- Quickly identify caller requests and take appropriate action
- Monitor and respond to alarm systems, including:
- Fire alarms
- Infant abduction alerts
- Nurse call systems
- Security intrusions
- Report irregularities from monitored systems to relevant personnel
- Conduct overhead page announcements clearly and accurately per protocols
- Handle after-hours calls for covered practices, paging staff/providers as needed (varies by site)
- Perform general call center functions (scheduling, troubleshooting, data entry)

Qualifications & Skills
Preferred Experience
- Demonstrated customer service experience
- Previous call center background (a plus)
- Basic computer/data entry proficiency
Essential Skills
- Ability to maintain professional composure under high stress
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Adaptability to multitask and prioritize tasks efficiently
- Interpersonal skills for interacting with diverse stakeholders (patients, staff, public)
- Outgoing demeanor with the ability to handle high call volumes confidently
Minimum Education
- High School Diploma or GED
Physical Requirements
- Must pass hearing, vision, and speech tests
- Frequent sitting, computer use, and data entry
- Manual dexterity for keyboarding, equipment management (~10 lbs. lifting as needed)
Daily Environment
- 24/7 operations (rotating shifts, holidays, weekends, and holidays included)
