Learning Design Specialist – New to Blue Programme

The Colleague Experience Group (CEG)—American Express’s Human Resources function—drives all colleague-related benefits and programs globally, including:

We are transforming New to Blue, American Express’s global colleague onboarding program, into a connected, scalable experience. This overhaul integrates enterprise, business-unit, and role-based learning, enabling colleagues to hit the ground running with confidence and productivity.

You will define the learning architecture of New to Blue by:

  • Structuring content from across the organization into clear, role-relevant journeys.
  • Ensuring colleagues receive timely, relevant information to accelerate their transition.
  • Partnering with stakeholders and product teams to design a seamless, intuitive learning experience that supports performance and satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design structured curricula for multi-functional, multi-location onboarding journeys.
  • Aggregate and organize diverse learning content into cohesive, role-aligned pathways.
  • Ensure learning is consistent, business-relevant, and effective for diverse needs.
  • Collaborate with product and UX teams to digitalise learning for engaging, accessible delivery.
  • Develop and refine personalised learning journeys based on roles and career stages.
  • Maintain quality and coherence as the program evolves through iteration and expansion.
  • Continuously measurement and optimize engagement, clarity, and user outcomes.

Required Qualifications & Experience

✔ Proven expertise in:

  • Onboarding design, curriculum development, learning design, or early-tenure experience programs.

✔ Technical & strategic acumen:

  • Deep understanding of onboarding efficiencies—how targeted learning accelerates speed-to-productivity.
  • Ability to chunk and structure complex content into intuitive learning pathways.
  • Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders (HR, business leaders, learning specialists, product teams).
  • Knowledge of digital learning methods and modern pedagogy (e.g., microlearning, adaptive pathways).

✔ Business orientation:

  • Capacity to align learning design with business goals and ROI.
  • Skills to map skill gaps, learning needs, and growth opportunities.

✔ Soft skills:

  • Exceptional organizational abilities and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration to balance strategy with practitioner needs.
