We are looking for an experienced Employee Relations Advisor to join our People team. This is a busy, varied role where you will provide practical, commercially focused employee relations advice and partner with operational leaders to create positive outcomes for both colleagues and the business.
Working closely with Area Operations Managers and the wider People team, you will manage a broad range of employee relations cases while supporting managers to improve absence management, performance, training compliance, and overall people capability.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys building strong relationships, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is confident balancing employment law, business needs, and commercial risk.
What You'll Be Doing
- Managing a wide range of employee relations cases, including disciplinary, grievance, capability, performance, and absence matters, ensuring they are handled fairly, consistently, and in line with employment law and company policy.
- Providing clear, practical advice to managers by telephone and email, escalating complex or high-risk cases where appropriate.
- Partnering with Area Operations Managers through regular four-weekly meetings to review people plans, monitor progress, and identify priorities across absence, performance, training, and employee relations.
- Preparing all employee relations documentation, including invitations, outcome letters, and supporting correspondence, ensuring cases remain on track.
- Managing ACAS negotiations and supporting the resolution of employment disputes while keeping key stakeholders informed.
- Monitoring absence cases, ensuring appropriate action is taken, and liaising with Occupational Health where required.
- Coaching and developing managers to build confidence in managing people issues and applying company policies consistently.
- Monitoring compliance with Buttercups Pharmacy Assistant qualifications, supporting managers to track learner progress and implement action plans where required.
- Reviewing and updating HR policies, templates, and documentation to ensure they remain compliant with current employment legislation.
- Keeping up to date with changes in employment law and ensuring advice reflects current best practice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
