About the Role

reporting to:

  • Employee Relations Senior Advisor

This position is dedicated to delivering a proactive, professional, and flexible Employee Relations service, providing expert advice and support across JD Sports Group. Your responsibility is to drive best practice, maintain compliance with employment legislation, and uphold fair and proportionate HR policies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first-line, generalist advice across the Group, covering Retail, Gyms, Supply Chain, and Head Office. This includes advising on:
    • Disciplinary procedures
    • Grievance processes
    • Absence management
    • Family-friendly policies
  • Offer empathetic and clear communications to resolve employee relations issues efficiently, while minimising appeals
  • Collaborate as a team player with the wider People team, sharing knowledge and expertise
  • Support and coach Line Managers in handling employee relations matters effectively
  • Provide meeting support, including minute-taking, to ensure procedures are conducted accurately
  • Ensure deep knowledge of up-to-date employment legislation, case law, and best practice
  • Work autonomously while prioritising tasks with occasional guidance from the People Leadership Team
  • Utilise Occupational Health (OH) services, preparing referrals and liaising with OH Advisors
  • Advise on consistent application of HR policies and procedures, suggesting areas for improvement
  • Facilitate compliance with statutory regulations, maintaining audit trails compliant with GDPR
  • Execute regular monthly/annual People processes within specified deadlines
  • Contribute to project work as required

Requirements & Qualifications

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a CIPD qualification at Level 5 (certified HR practitioners)
  • Consideration may be given to those with the CIPD Level 3 (if accompanied by substantial HR/People generalist experience) with a commitment to progressing to Level 5
  • Essential experience in HR/People Advisor roles, ideally within retail or a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Expertise in managing high-volume, complex caseloads
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment legislation, policies, and procedures
  • Proven ability to handle formal meetings, offer advice, and take minutes
  • Strong communication, influencing, and coaching skills
  • Experience of resolving employee relations cases with care and integrity
  • Proficient in Office365 and HR systems (a plus for Dayforce experience)
  • Accuracy in typing and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic, continually changing environment
  • Flexibility to support 24/7 operations, including working outside standard office hours if required
