Employee Relations Partner – 12-Month Fixed Term Contract (Full-Time or Part-Time, Flexible Hours)

Our 60-strong Leeds Central Support team empowers 850 individual consultants spanning 46 countries—ensuring excellence in veterinary enforcement and advisory services across the UK and beyond.
We are seeking a highly organised, resilient, and customer-focused HR Professional to fill a 12-month fixed-term contract (covering a career break). This role is designed to be flexible—initially offering 24 hours per week (3 days), but adaptable to either full-time (40/5 days) or part-time (minimum 24/3 days) at your preference. Hybrid working will also be available.
About the Role
As the Employee Relations (ER) Partner, you’ll report to the Head of People Services and be a trusted advisor to managers and stakeholders across the business. Your core responsibility is to deliver reliable, effective ER support, focusing on:
- Compliance and legislation (helping line managers navigate company policy, procedure, and employment law).
- Case management—handling employee relations and HR processes proactively to build a harmonious, compliant workplace.
This is a specialist ER role for someone who is customer-centric, capable of managing high-stakes issues, and capable of coaching managers in best practice.
Key Responsibilities

Employee Relations Advice & Support
- Advise and guide managers on all ER matters, including disciplinary actions, performance management, capability matters, grievances, absence, and welfare.
- Provide expert input on acting under pressure to help resolve employee-related challenges timely, compliantly, and fairly.

Case Management & Process Handling
- Lead HR investigations, disciplinary, tribunals, and grievance processes with clarity and accuracy.
- Manage escalations arising from leave 40, employment tribunals, EOTC, and other HR-related litigation.
- Implement absence management to maintain wellbeing and legal protection.

Relationship Building & Stakeholder Engagement
- Engage and train managers at all levels to improve their understanding of HR processes, reduce errors, and prevent early disputes.
- Build a culture of proactivity and transparency—where employees feel heard and rectifying issues is a collaborative priority.
- Monitor pulse surveys and trends in absence, engagement, and relationships to inform people strategy.

Disciplinary & Equality Support
- Assist with now matter related to equality, diversity, and fairness—ensuring consistent application of employee rights and duty to respect human rights.
- Provide disciplinary procedures and employment law guidance in line with best practice and up-to-date legislation (including discrimination claims and sickness issues).

Coaching & Process Development
- Coach line managers to handle delicate conversations and disciplinary situations confidently and consistently.
- Reinforce compliance practices so managers show early and positive interventions.

Policy, Reporting, and Metrics
- Provide ER metrics and reports to reflect trends and use data to improve processes and culture.
- Keep track of and handle queries related to company policies and legal compliance.

Cross-Personal Projects
- Support HR initiatives as needed to drive forward-thinking talent and culture strategies.
Key Requirements
- Ideal Profile
- 3+ years’ experience in Employee Relations or specialist HR, including expertise in case management (interviews, disciplinary actions, tribunals, grievances, and HR law).
- Proven ability to advise managers independently and effectively—ensuring compliant decisions.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ER policies, processes, procedures as well as:
- Disciplinary and grievance procedures
- Tribunal-related actions
- Employment law (including disability rights, diversity, and equal opportunities)
- Strong written and verbal communication with upper-level confidence.
- Elicit professional boundaries while fostering a supportive and well-organised environment.
- CIPD or equivalent HR qualifications are preferable.
