Employee Relations Specialist
Employee Relations (ER) Specialist – Global Reinsurance (International)
Wise May are currently recruiting for a full-time permanent Employee Relations (ER) Specialist with International expertise (AVP level) for a Global Reinsurance client, offering flexible, hybrid working.
About the Role
As an Employee Relations Specialist, you will act as a global subject matter expert (SME), designing and embedding a new service delivery framework to:
- Support employees and managers on ER-related topics.
- Establish clear standards and a focused approach to ER strategy and risk management to strengthen practises globally.
This is a newly created role, focusing on ** véhicule ER best practices, risk mitigation, and cross-regional consistency**.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Governance
- Contribute to the development and implementation of the Enterprise Employee Relations framework, ensuring governance standards align with broader global strategy and regional employment regulations.
- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve ER standards, processes, and tools (including discipline, performance management, and involuntary separation templates) while ensuring consistency with global ER practices.
Investigations & Risk Management
- Independently lead complex workplace investigations, including sensitive cases (e.g., harassment, discrimination, GDPR/regulatory concerns, whistleblowing).
- Partner with HRBPs, Legal, and People Experience Operations to:
- Conduct interviews and assess evidence.
- Prepare investigation reports.
- Recommend disciplinary outcomes or development actions.
- Provide expert ER guidance to Employee Relations Specialists, ensuring proactive issue resolution, risk mitigation, and fair, consistent handling of employee matters across regions.
- Act as a point of escalation for high-quality ER support, aligning with the tiered support model.

Monitoring & Reporting
- Monitor and evaluate ER programs and processes across the International region, contributing to:
- Case trend reports.
- Risk assessments and external counsel usage metrics.
- Provide insights aligned with Global ER success measures.
Training & Compliance
- Design and deliver ER training (e.g., leadership workshops, disciplinary processes) for managers and employees, ensuring global-standard alignment.
- Lead regional legal and regulatory compliance monitoring in partnership with Country Leads, ensuring policies and practices comply with local employment laws (e.g., GDPR, whistleblower protections).
- Collaborate with the Global ER team to maintain regional alignment with global standards, sharing best practices and contributing to continuous improvement.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential
- Significant experience in global Employee Relations, including:
- Designing, implementing, and embedding ER practises across multi-region, multi-jurisdiction environments.
- Proven experience investigating complex ER matters (e.g., discrimination, misconduct, compliance breaches).
- Ability to lead high-risk investigations and provide expert advice to senior leaders on sensitive issues.
- Strong analytical problem-solving skills with a focus on risk-aware resolutions.
- Experience with HRIS platforms and ER/case management systems.
- Degree in Human Resources, Business, Psychology, Employment Law, or related field.
- CIPD, SHRM, IHRP certification (preferably with an ER/specialist focus).

- Familiarity with US frameworks (e.g., FMLA, ADA, OSHA).
- Experience with regional expertise (EMEA, APAC, Canada) and local ER best practices.
Soft Skills
- Strong stakeholder management and diplomacy in difficult conversations.
- Ability to multitask in high-pressure environments while ensuring compliance.
- Up-to-date knowledge of global employment law trends.
