This Employee Relations Specialist role presents a unique chance to drive meaningful organisational change while supporting colleagues and the wider public. You’ll join a high-performing People & Change team, contributing directly to shaping and delivering complex transformations aligned with employment law and best practices.
Thriving in a fast-paced environment, you’ll lead strategic employee relations support across organisational changes—including restructures, realignments, and redundancies—while balancing accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
The role expects you to:
- Deliver expert employee relations support: Manage complex change programmes—such as restructures, realignments, and redundancies—ensuring compliance with employment law, HR best practices, and civil service governance frameworks.
- Resolve sensitive issues: Handling grievances, consultative processes, and financial/risk mitigation for change-related concerns while maintaining fairness.
- Guide strategic outcomes: Provide leadership and written responses for consultations, proposals, and policies to help reassure staff and leadership.
- Collaborate on transformation: Work closely with People Business Partners to optimise redeployment processes and reduce business costs.
- Advise senior leaders: Aid managers in determining and implementing decisions that keep staff and organisation aligned during transition.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) Level 7 qualification (or equivalent experience).
Knowledge
- Expertise in:
- Change management and organisational transformation principles
- Employment law, including redundancy and redeployment practices
- HR best practice in managing change
- Leadership frameworks
- Consultation processes with unions
Experience
- Proven track record of:
- Leading or advising senior managers on organisational change and restructuring
- Negotiating with trade unions
- Supporting staff through transitions and crafting clear communications
- Managing redundancies, redeployment, and grievance cases
- Driving large-scale transformational change
- Engagement in civil service, public, or charity sectors (preferably with civil service redundancy experience)
Skills
- Essential capabilities: Exceptional negotiation, communication, influencing, analytical thinking, problem-solving, coaching, and cost-effective strategies.
- Proactive approach: Ensuring effective employee relations and facilitating positive change.
Additional Requirements
- Willingness to travel to regional offices for in-person meetings.
