Employer Engagement Manager

Location: JTL Birmingham Training Centre with regional travel Working Pattern/Hours: Full time, 35 hours per week Salary: Up to £51,100, depending on skills and experience

About the Role

To drive growth for JTL in the Birmingham and wider West Midlands region by:

  • Engaging employers
  • Understanding their workforce development needs
  • Promoting JTL’s electrical and plumbing apprenticeship programmes
  • Promoting the suite of commercial CPD training courses

A key aspect of this role is to support the growth of the training centre by:

  • Developing and maintaining strong relationships with local employers and industry partners
  • Actively engaging with businesses to understand their workforce development needs
  • Identifying opportunities to provide relevant training solutions

Working between the delivery of apprenticeships and commercial training programmes, the individual will:

  • Use industry knowledge and communication skills to build trusted relationships
  • Identify skills gaps, workforce development opportunities, and future training requirements

The role will also involve:

  • Promoting the full range of training solutions (including apprenticeships, short courses, and bespoke commercial training)
  • Working with employers to align training pathways with business objectives and employee development

Responsibilities

  • Maintain regular contact with employers
  • Attend industry events to promote JTL
  • Proactively identify new business opportunities

Success will be measured through developing sustainable employer partnerships, identifying new training opportunities, and converting employer engagement into apprenticeship placements and commercial course bookings.


Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

Employer Engagement & Sales

  • Proactively identify and pursue new employer partnerships across Birmingham and the West Midlands
  • Promote and sell Electrical and Plumbing apprenticeship programmes to employers
  • Position and secure new commercial training business
  • Conduct employer visits, virtual meetings, and presentations for solutions
  • Manage a sales pipeline ensuring timely follow-ups and conversions

Account Management

  • Act as a main point of contact for local employers
  • Maintain long-term relationships with existing clients for repeat business
  • Collaborate with internal teams (delivery, marketing, and administration) for smooth onboarding

Market Development

  • Map industry sectors and local apprenticeship/commercial training opportunities
  • Attend networking events, employer forums, and trade shows
  • Gather employer and market insights to inform product development and regional strategy

Performance & Administration

  • Achieve agreed monthly/annual apprenticeship and revenue targets
  • Maintain accurate employer interaction records via JTL’s systems
  • Generate regular activity and performance reports for review

Person Specification

Essential Requirements

  • Proven business-development/sales experience (education sector preferred)
  • Strong communication/influencing skills
  • Ability to rapidly build relationships with employers and stakeholders
  • Self-motivated with excellent organisational skills
  • Knowledge of apprenticeship funding and building services engineering sector
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Experience selling CPD/commercial training products
  • Understanding of local/regional labour market trends in electrical/plumbing trades
