Newly Qualified Employment Lawyer

We are looking for a Newly Qualified Employment Lawyer to join our Legal team at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM).

This is a fantastic opportunity to build your career within a purpose-driven organisation at the heart of Greater Manchester’s growth. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of employment law matters while supporting the delivery of safe, fair and inclusive public services.

Under supervision, you’ll provide clear, practical employment law advice across a broad range of employment matters to HR, supporting colleagues and stakeholders to ensure casework is progressed both effectively and is legally compliant.

You’ll:

  • Provide advice and support to the People Team during investigations, disciplinary, grievance, absence and performance matters.
  • Draft and advise on settlement agreements. With supervision, provide advice on TUPE, restructuring, redundancy and organisational change.
  • Support the management of Employment Tribunal cases, including collating bundles, liaising with the tribunal, ACAS, counsel. Supporting case strategy and evidence collation.
  • Draft and review employment documentation, outcome letters policies and guidance.
  • Research and apply legislation, case law and guidance and prepare clear written advice notes with options and risk analysis.
  • Attend meetings and work closely with HR and managers to identify risk and recommend practical solutions, escalating complex or high risk matters appropriately.
  • Familiar or have experience of working in a unionised environment.
  • Build relationships and provide employment law support to key partners, including the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service.
  • Contribute to training, guidance and continuous improvement across the organisation.
  • You’ll also support wider transformation programmes and help ensure TfGM remains compliant and prepared for changes in employment legislation.

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
