Employment Officer (Virtual School’s Employment Support Team) Salary: £28,142 – £32,061 per annum | Permanent | Full-Time (37 hours/week)
Location: Across Lancashire (north county focus), with flexible, agile working in schools, businesses, and remotely.
International Sponsorship: This role is not open to international sponsorship.
About the Role
We are seeking a motivated Employment Officer to join our established Employment Support Team in the Virtual School. You’ll work with care-experienced young people aged 12–25 across Lancashire, supporting them into education, employment, or training.
Key responsibilities include:
- Delivering careers advice and guidance to young people from vulnerable backgrounds.
- Building professional relationships with schools, employers, and partners.
- travelling across Lancashire to engage with young people and stakeholders.
- Supporting 16–24-year-olds in securing and sustaining employment, including mentorship and employer liaison.
Experience required: ✔ Demonstrated experience working with a caseload of care-experienced young people. ✔ Strong knowledge of needs of children in care and how to address them. ✔ Experience in delivering careers education (Years 8–11) or similar role within education. ✔ A passion for improving young people’s life chances through education/employment pathways.
Desirable: ✔ Careers Level 6 qualification (training provided for holders of alternative qualifications).

Key Responsibilities
Careers & Education Support (Years 8–11)
- Deliver high-quality careers advice in schools to ensure holistic support for care-experienced teenagers.
- Work with school staff to integrate careers opportunities tailored to the needs of care-experienced students.
Employability Support (Ages 16–24)
- Collaborate with supportive employers (e.g., apprenticeships, work placements, progression roles).
- Provide 1:1 mentorship to match young people with suitable career pathways.
- Monitor progress and remove barriers to employability.
Cross-County Delivery
- Agile working: Switch between schools, businesses, and home offices.
- Professional travel required: Regular visits to meet young people, schools, and partners.
Requirements
Essential:
- Proven experience working with vulnerable young people in a caseload-facing role.
- Ability to demonstrate impact on young people’s education and employment outcomes.
- Competency in building trusting relationships, resilience, and adaptability.
- Hold or obtain DBS clearance (required for the role).
Desirable but not mandatory:
- Qualifications in careers education (Level 6 preferable, alternative training provided).
- Experience with alternative providers (e.g., Connexions, Further Education colleges).
