About Us
Hale and Hawthorn is a small, technology-enabled law firm providing specialist legal services to clients across England and Wales. We are proud of our approachable, down-to-earth culture, where people work closely together, share ideas freely and support one another. Unlike many larger firms, individuals have a genuine opportunity to influence how the business develops and to see the direct impact of their contribution.
Our marketing and technology platforms generate a consistent pipeline of work, allowing our solicitors to focus on delivering excellent legal advice rather than business development.
We are launching a new employment law service focused on providing independent legal advice on employment settlement agreements. We are looking for an Employment Solicitor to become the firm's second employment lawyer and help establish what we believe will become a significant area of the business.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys client-facing advisory work, wants genuine responsibility and is excited by the prospect of helping shape a modern, technology-enabled legal service from an early stage.
The Role
You will advise employees on the terms and effect of employment settlement agreements, conduct client appointments, explain legal and practical implications, negotiate amendments where appropriate, and ensure clients receive clear, practical and commercially focused advice.

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?
Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.
Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
