Employment Specialist
Employment Specialist
Salary: £31,000 per annum + Package
Location: Covering Harrogate (Fixed Site Worker with regular travel across North Yorkshire)
Working Pattern: Monday to Friday, 9am – 5pm
As an Employment Specialist, you will champion a strengths-based approach to employment, prioritising an individual’s potential and working with employers to foster inclusive workplaces where everyone can succeed. This is a target-driven role where your ability to engage, motivate, and connect with potential employers will be crucial.
About the Role
You will drive meaningful change by breaking barriers to employment for individuals facing complex challenges.
Responsibilities
Client Support
- Conduct client assessments with a hands-on, proactive, and flexible approach, supporting individuals with complex needs to secure and retain sustainable employment.
- Provide comprehensive tailored one-to-one employment support, including:
- Resume writing
- Job search strategies
- Career planning
- Manage a small caseload of motivated participants previously out of work (or never worked) due to disability or long-term health conditions.
Culture Development
- Build strong partnerships with local support organisations (e.g., local government, NHS, voluntary and community groups) by co-locating to deliver seamless, integrated support.

- Establish and maintain relationships with employers to create tailored job opportunities, aligning roles with individual strengths and aspirations.

- Advocate for inclusive employment practices, helping employers embrace diversity and adapt their work environments.
Requirements
Essential Skills & Flexibility
- Proactive mindset, with the ability to adapt quickly and think on your feet.
- Strong emotional intelligence, enabling meaningful, empathetic, and professional engagement with sensitive topics.
- Deep understanding of employment services, welfare-to-work initiatives, and barriers experienced by long-term unemployed individuals.
- Confidence in networking, relationship-building and engaging with employers, stakeholders, and communities.
Desirable (Not Essential) Experience
- Knowledge of IPS/SEQF models and principles (Individual Placement and Support/Scottish Experience Qualifications Framework).
- Experience supporting individuals with complex needs, including disabilities or long-term health conditions.
- Background in community outreach, stakeholder engagement, or employment services.
