About the Role
Employment Taxes Assistant – Graduate Programme
Location: Newcastle upon Tyne, city centre Reports to: Employment Tax Partner Start Date: September 2026 Commitment: Full-time, Graduate Programme
As an Employment Taxes Assistant, you’ll work closely with experienced professionals to provide specialist advice to UNW’s clients on employment tax matters. This role is project-driven, ensuring no two weeks are the same. UNW’s client base varies significantly, from small owner-managed businesses to global household names.
Key Responsibilities:
- Expertise Development: Become an expert in the field of employment taxes through practice and training.
- Apprenticeship Training (4-year period):
- Obtain the Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT) and Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA) qualifications.

Project Work: Manage diverse projects including:
- Data analysis
- Drafting client advice using Microsoft Copilot
- Analysing company policies
- Writing detailed reports

Knowledge Application: Understand and apply relevant tax legislation to provide tailored advice to clients.

Client Interactions: Engage directly with clients and government departments through meetings (in-person or virtual) and telephone calls.

Flexibility: Adapt to fluctuating workloads, whether prioritising urgent client needs or strategising future client requirements.
Recent Project Examples:
- engineering sector: Advised a client on tax and National Insurance implications of an employee working remotely in Sweden.
- technology sector: Guided a client on the latest benefits surrounding company cars, including salary sacrifice options.
- education sector: Clarified reporting requirements for payments made to employees.
- construction sector: Conducted research, advised on engagement of self-employed workers, and delivered a training session for a client’s finance team.
