Your Purpose
We are excited to be hiring for an Energy Efficiency Naval Architect to support MSC Cruises’ commitment in energy efficiency and decarbonisation of the fleet. In this role you will develop and use tools to achieve short and mid-term savings in fuel consumption and emissions, while also contributing to the company’s long-term decarbonisation strategy.
In this role you will advise the Vice President of Energy Efficiency on optimal ship setup, using analytics tools to monitor ship performance, creating reports, maintaining data integrity and accuracy. You will liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and will participate actively in MSC Cruise Management and MSC Group decarbonisation strategy, joining seminars, meetings, and providing specific technical advice and data insights.
Your Impact
- Leads the development, improvement and maintenance of tools to evaluate the fleet’s performance using high frequency operational data.
- Delivers data-based analyses and recommendations for the fleet in service (propulsion load, hotel/service load, machinery usage and efficiency).
- Identifies new technologies and systems to be applied on board the fleet to achieve energy efficiency and emission reduction targets.
- Develops digital energy models of the fleet to be used for simulations and projections.
- Participates in energy efficiency and decarbonisation aspects of newbuilding projects, contributes to the development of the company’s newbuilding strategy.
- Undertakes critical reviews of third-party technical proposals on new technologies.
- Calculates and analyses ship emissions, participates in emission verification process (IMO DCS and CII, EU MRV, EU ETS and FuelEU Maritime).
- Analyses the impact of emission regulations (e.g. EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime) and advises on optimal ways to mitigate it.
- Travels on board or ashore for trainings, audits or for technical projects.
- Participates in R&D projects on energy efficiency and decarbonisation.
- Develops ad hoc reports to enhance data distribution across the company.
- Works on several projects at once by virtue of prioritising effectively and completes them within the required timeframe through effective time management.
- Works with all departments to achieve common targets as per company strategy.

Your Journey so far
- Degree in Engineering (Naval Architecture, Mechanical, Electrical, Hydrodynamic or a related discipline).
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar field (ship performance, ship design, sustainability) with a proven track record of achievements. Experience in the cruise industry is highly desirable.
- High-level technical background in related fields (ship hydrodynamics / resistance and propulsion, engine performance, diesel electric systems, hotel and auxiliary consumers, heat recovery systems).
- Familiarity with regulatory framework (e.g. CII, EU ETS, FuelEU Maritime) is an advantage.
- Advanced skills in analytical tools, using dedicated software and platforms, such as PowerBI.
- Proficient in documentation and technical manual preparation.
