Location: Coulman Road, Thorne, Doncaster, South Yorkshire

Salary: Up to £22.00 per hour

Hours: Rotating Shifts Monday to Friday (Shifts usually from 5am, 9 hours with an hour paid for lunch. Rotating shift with 2pm until 9 hours for the back shift. One week of earlies rotating with one week of lates)

The Engineer is responsible for delivering effective engineering repair, maintenance, and reliability activities across the site. Working as part of the engineering team, the role ensures machinery and equipment operate safely and efficiently through reactive, corrective, and planned preventative maintenance. The Engineer supports operational performance, contributes to continuous improvement, and maintains high standards of safety, communication, and housekeeping.

Duties

Engineering Maintenance and Repairs

  • Carry out engineering repairs, corrective maintenance, and planned preventative maintenance (PPM) across the site.
  • Complete tasks generated from audits, work requests, and PPM follow-ups.
  • Ensure machinery and equipment meet site standards, escalating issues where necessary.

Workload and Shift Management

  • Manage personal workload and complete scheduled tasks to required standards.
  • Ensure effective handover of outstanding work between shifts.
  • Maintain excellent housekeeping across all engineering work areas.

Safety and Compliance

  • Apply Health and Safety and Food Safety standards to all work undertaken.
  • Manage the Health and Safety compliance of external contractors, ensuring work areas are left clean and safe.
  • Support environmental compliance requirements.

Team and Communication

  • Support colleagues within the team and contribute to achieving KPIs and performance targets.
  • Communicate effectively with management and other departments regarding breakdowns and engineering activities.
  • Challenge issues constructively and professionally.

Stock and Equipment Management

  • Control and manage spare parts ordering to ensure effective stock levels.
  • Maintain accurate records and uphold site standards for engineering assets.

Qualifications / Experience

  • Completion of a 4-year approved technical training programme.
  • Minimum NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in mechanical/electrical repair and maintenance.
  • Alternatively, a suitable combination of apprenticeship/education and experience that provides equivalent skills and knowledge.
  • At least 5 years experience in a similar engineering role.
  • Experience within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Food manufacturing experience is advantageous but not essential.
