What We’re Looking For
We are offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Setting Out Engineer to join us in the Eastern Counties area. The right candidate should have relevant setting out experience in Residential Groundworks.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Ensure that the latest drawings and details are used, by checking drawing registers, for all site operations, liaising with the MVK Contracts Manager/ Technical Department, Foreman and the client engineer.
- Ensure that all drawings and information are checked through and both coordinates on drawings and setting out on site.
- Liaise with the Technical Department, MVK project manager and contracts manager regarding discrepancies and resolution.
- Ensure that instruments used are accurate and secure by maintaining a sufficient testing and service calibration regime.
- Carry out engineer self-checks as required and complete necessary paperwork.
- Ensure that sites are monitored for setting out requirements by liaison with the contracts manager, project manager or the site foreman and that sufficient resource is allocated to each site to ensure site progress.
- Ensure that all setting out is checked, once completed ensure that no errors were either provided by the client or introduced during the process (looking down lines / measurements to pins / coordinate checking and run through).
- CAD drawings only to be used with extreme caution and not to be used for plot setting out, use provided coordinates for this.
- Ensure familiarisation with the construction details to advise site staff.
- Due consideration of all the information at your disposal before setting out commences (i.e. site layouts, not just foundation plans that will show varying hands or block arrangements etc).
- Keeping and maintaining adequate records for future reference and back up.
- Ensuring sufficient resource allocated to each site under management.
- Reaction to urgent requirements and prioritising workload.
- Co-ordination and communication of resources with other company engineers to ensure best time use made in busy or slack times on either your own or other engineer’s sites.
- Liaison with the client engineer to ensure good communication and relationship building.
- Full compliance and review and understanding of the pre-site start minutes or periodic notes as distributed.
- Inform the MVK project manager or surveyor of incurred costs, either extra time taken to carry out tasks due to problematical information or information provision or extra work requirements on site.
- Feedback any health and safety issues/concerns.
- Provide all necessary help to other company employees for any matters concerning health & safety, i.e. completion of method statements & risk assessments, PPE, monitoring and control, etc.

Requirements:

- Engineering background in housing and infrastructure.
- Experience of setting out for residential groundworks (roads and sewers).
- Managed multiple sites.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- AutoCAD experience and full understanding.
- Excellent reasoning and number ability.
- Work with a high degree of accuracy.
- Highly organised.
- Ability to prioritise and cope well under pressure.
- Reliable and self-motivated.
