Join NRS Dounreay as a Controls & Instrumentation Engineer

Play a key role in delivering complex engineering projects within a highly regulated nuclear environment. You will engage with technical activities, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, and work closely with stakeholders to drive project success. This is an opportunity to apply your expertise where precision, governance, and safety are critical.

About the Role

Nuclear Restoration Services (NRS) is seeking a skilled Controls & Instrumentation Engineer to join our team at the Dounreay site within the Reactors programme area. This role is key to supporting the safe and effective delivery of engineering projects within a highly regulated nuclear environment.

The role will cover new build projects, continued operation of existing facilities and upgrades to support decommissioning works, all of which will require C&I support. The successful candidate will work within a multidisciplinary team directly contributing to these activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver C&I related engineering tasks
  • Support the development and maintenance of project schedules (from an engineering perspective)
  • Apply health, safety, environmental and waste management processes in support of engineering activities, taking advice where necessary from appropriate specialists
  • Liaise effectively with stakeholders on specific projects
  • Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to the post

Reasons to use Rodeo

I’m in my final year doing Economics and I don’t know whether to apply for grad schemes now or do a masters first. What do you think?

Honest answer — it depends on where you want to end up. A lot of top grad schemes (Big 4, civil service, banking) don’t need a masters. Let’s look at the ones you’d be competitive for now, and we can decide if a masters actually adds anything.

Also worth knowing: most autumn 2026 applications are open now. Timing matters more than you think.

Start with a chat, not a search bar

Grad scheme, placement, apprenticeship? Not sure what you want yet — that's fine. Your agent talks it through with you and turns "I have no idea" into a shortlist.
