Engineer – Data Quality Management

Location: UK Wide – Scotstoun, Filton, New Malden, Portsmouth, hybrid- 2/3 days per week on site

Salary: Up to £45,500 depending on skills and experience

Role description:

Assist in the delivery of the River Class Destroyer (RCD) engineering Bill of Material (BoM) and other applicable engineering artefacts to the RCD customer. You will provide support to all aspects of engineering data quality, including co-ordination of the electronic data transfer between BAE Systems Naval Ships and the customer. You’ll work as part of a multi-discipline team serving as the main interface, point-of-contact, and escalation route for industry partners for engineering data transfer and data quality issues, developing and agreeing detailed applicable cross-company engineering processes, ensuring customer needs are met, and driving a continuous improvement approach.

Core Duties:

  • Assist within the engineering delivery schedule of engineering data transfers to industry partners, e.g. Bill of Materials, 3D CAD Model, Change Packages (working with document control; DD&C; design zone integration; change, configuration, detail design; and chief engineer technical authorities)
  • Assist in the collaborative working with shipyard from both a stakeholder relationship and engineering process point of view, including daily/weekly drumbeat for transfer activities and engineering quality issue resolution
  • Assist in the establishment of a fit-for-purpose engineering deliverable readiness approach for RCD and take responsibility for engineering data quality issue (DQI) resolution in line with agreed Customer service level agreements
  • Assist in the creation of engineering requirements for company-company data transfer capability and engage closely with RCD programme and Naval Ships digital demand governance processes and change boards

Essential skills:

  • Academic qualification in a STEM related subject, and ability/willingness to become recognised as Incorporated or Chartered Engineer through an appropriate recognised professional institution
  • Knowledge of the engineering lifecycle and governance of complex products, including transition from detail design into build
  • Knowledge of engineering processes such as design assurance, bills of materials, data quality and governance, design reviews, and zonal integration
