EMC Test Engineer – Fareham, UK

Role Overview

Our EMC (Electromagnetic Compatibility) focused team delivers a comprehensive testing service for cutting-edge technology and devices across diverse industries. This role involves taking ownership of EMC test projects, from setup to completion, ensuring accurate delivery of results to customers and clients. This opportunity allows you to build a fulfilling career in engineering while developing your technical skills in a global, well-respected organisation.

Initial training is conducted Monday-Friday, 37 hours/week (8:30 AM – 5:00 PM), followed by a shift rotation. Shift times alternate every two to three weeks:

  • Shift 1

    • Monday to Thursday: 8 AM – 4:30 PM (1-hour lunch break)
    • Friday: 8 AM – 4:00 PM (1-hour lunch break)
  • Shift 2

    • Monday to Thursday: 4 PM – 12:30 AM (1-hour break)
    • Friday: 4 PM – 12 AM (1-hour break)

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with customers, engineers, and project managers to provide EMC testing in screened-enclosure and in-situ environments.
  • Support customers during test programmes, especially when encountering issues, and communicate technical challenges effectively.
  • Maintain data logs and electronic records for all testing procedures.
  • Generate test procedures, including photos and uncertainty calculations.
  • Develop test plans (where required) and compile comprehensive test reports.
  • Contribute to test equipment and methodology enhancements, as well as validation of client requirements (potentially requiring site visits).
  • Assist the sales team by supplying technical information for quote generation.
  • Specialize in a specific testing arena, such as rail, marine, or radio EMC requirements.
  • Provide training to engineers on specialist areas.

Essential Criteria

Applicants must possess:

  • Experience as an EMC Test Engineer in a commercial test laboratory, with practical knowledge of the EMC Directive and/or EMC test standards (e.g., CENELEC, ISO, FCC).
  • Proficiency in using key EMC test equipment:
    • Spectrum/Network Analyser
    • Oscilloscope
    • Signal Generator
    • RF Power Meter
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with fluent English (essential for direct customer engagement).
  • Self-driven attitude, with enthusiasm for learning and developing technical expertise.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including overtime and rotational shifts (involving night shifts).
  • Computer literacy and strong IT skills, particularly:
    • Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
    • Experience with bespoke testing systems
