Overview of the Role
At TfL, we’re seeking an Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Engineer within the Systems Performance & Integration team to help shape the future of London’s transport assets.
As part of a collaborative engineering team, you’ll:
- Offer technical guidance to other EMC Engineers when delivering solutions to clients and stakeholders.
- Check and challenge designs against TfL, UK, and international standards.
- Collaborate with suppliers and stakeholders to managing EMC requirements.
- Mitigate and manage EMC risks, including root cause analysis and continuous improvement through innovation, best practice, and whole life cost optimisation.
You’ll work across the entire project lifecycle (feasibility, concept design, installation, commissioning, operation, and maintenance), ensuring technical expertise aligns with TfL’s sustainable vision for transport: the green heart of London.

Essential qualifications:
- Degree (Bachelor’s or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic Engineering, Physics, or related field.
- Relevant domain knowledge for London’s transport modes.
- Ability to build strong relationships with teams across TfL and external partners.
Key Accountabilities
- Guarantee safety, functionality, or compliance of new or modified assets within a low-to-medium risk scope.
- Lead low-complexity engineering solutions applying TfL’s, British, and international standards.
- Provide expert technical challenge and advice to internal stakeholders to ensure high-quality solutions.
- Monitor and survey on-site risks, resolving or escalating issues as needed.
- Maintain real-time knowledge of latest standards, codes, and legislation in EMC/electrotechnical fields.
- Select and apply solutions for low-risk or efficiency-driven problems, while reducing operating costs.
- Deliver technical recommendations to senior management or clients.
- Embrace continuous improvement through best practice, life cost optimisation, and innovation.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in EMC.
- Assurance documentation expertise: EMC Management/Control Plans, Risk Analysis, Technical Files, and Design Reviews.
- Strong understanding of UK EMC standards and legislative frameworks.
