Your Role: Engineer - IT Manufacturing Execution

As an Engineer - IT Manufacturing Execution, you will be a key technical contributor, bridging the gap between physical manufacturing processes and digital systems. Your focus is on implementing, supporting, and optimizing our Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES). This role ensures that our production facilities run efficiently, compliantly, and reliably.


Key Focus Areas

Elanco operates under four strategic priorities:

  • Pipeline Acceleration: Deliver high-impact medicines faster, at lower cost, and with precision.
  • Manufacturing Excellence: Enhance efficiency, quality, and consistency in core manufacturing–especially execution and equipment performance.
  • Sales Effectiveness: Streamline the process for accessing relevant customer insights to drive sales growth.
  • Productivity: Expand operating margins through systematic efficiency improvements and reduction of expenses.

Responsibilities

System Design and Configuration

  • Contribute to the design, configuration, and implementation of MES solutions.
  • Modify electronic batch records (EBRs), system workflows, and equipment integration based on defined requirements.

Process Optimization

  • Collaborate with operations and quality teams to analyze manufacturing and lab workflows.
  • Use MES capabilities to improve processes, reduce production cycle times, and ensure data integrity at the shop-floor level.

System Support and Management

  • Provide frontline technical support for MES platforms and act as a key troubleshooting resource.
  • Ensure high availability for manufacturing and lab teams.

Integration

  • Assist with integrating MES platforms with ERP (SAP), PLC systems, and SCADA, securing a seamless data flow.

Validation and Compliance

  • Execute and manage validation protocols (IQ/OQ/PQ) for MES enhancements.
  • Prepare validation documentation to maintain GxP compliance and data integrity.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work seamlessly with Manufacturing Operations, Quality Assurance, and Process Science to align system requirements and updates.

User Training and Enablement

  • Develop training materials and conduct training sessions to ensure effective use of MES/LES systems among manufacturing and lab personnel.

What You Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Industrial, Chemical, Manufacturing, Computer Science), or a related technical field—or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Experience: 3+ years supporting and configuring an MES platform (e.g., Tulip, Werum PAS-X, Emerson Syncade, POMSnet).
  • Industry Experience: Direct interaction with manufacturing processes, preferably in pharmaceutical, biologics, animal health, or similar GxP-regulated industries.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Understanding and experience with GxP (good manufacturing practices) and computer system validation (CSV) concepts.
  • Process Control Understanding: Familiarity with industrial automation (PLCs, SCADA) and their role in MES integration.
  • Technical Skills: SQL knowledge for analytics, troubleshooting, reporting, and data extraction.

Competitive Edge: Preferred Qualifications

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical skills to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • Process Analysis: Capable of interpreting process maps and requirements documents to optimize workflow design.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Strong teamwork, communication, and interpersonal abilities to coordinate with operators, scientists, and management.
  • Cloud Proficiency: Experience with Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud Platform (GCP), a plus.
  • DevSecOps Awareness: Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, scripting/Git integration, and system security or governance.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication, capable of complex explanation and documentation.

  • Travel: Minimal (0–10%).
  • Location: Eligible for a hybrid work environment in Hook, UK or Speke, UK.
