Engineering Manager
Shift: Monday–Friday Type: Permanent Location: Huntingdon
About The Role
We need a professional and experienced Engineering Manager to join our growing Engineering team and take on responsibility for overseeing resources, maintaining compliance, and leading operational excellence.
This role requires:
- Proven track record as an Engineering Manager or someone with prior supervision/management experience in the food industry sector
- A workspace mindset prioritising safety, quality, and reliability
- Clear capability in budget management, risk assessment, and team performance
You will act as a safety and quality leader, ensuring regulations are upheld and tasks are completed efficiently while managing a team of engineers and contractors.
Key Responsibilities

Set and uphold standards
- Showcase reliability, adaptability, and commitment to safety and quality.
- Ensure Engineering Risk Assessments and SOPs are updated and reviewed by the team.
- Maintain an audit-ready workspace at all times, meeting legal compliance and customer requirements.

Shift and resource management
- Oversee shift rotas, holidays, and overtime while balancing business needs.
- Collaborate with HR on recruitment, attracting top-tier engineering talent for vacancies.

Employee development
- Own the Engineering onboarding process, ensuring new starters gain the necessary skills for success.
- Provide engineers with training, tools, and parts required to perform their jobs effectively.
- Manage Engineers RGC utilization (target 70–90%), ensuring accurate timekeeping and document maintenance.

Maintenance & performance tracking
- Keep the CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management System) up-to-date.
- Monitor PPM completion (monthly >85%) and ensure key assets (e.g., TVIs, Mondini’s, VMags, grinders, blenders) meet 100% compliance standards.
- Present monthly PPM plans aligned with the assigned units.

Contractor supervision & compliance
- Manage external contractors, ensuring permit-to-work systems, RAMS (Risk Assessment Method Statements), and risk-assessed supervision protocols.
- Oversee contractor performance, guaranteeing adherence to their RAMS at all times.

Team performance & feedback
- Conduct PDR (Performance Development Reports) discussions annually within the window and follow up with monthly 1-2-1s.
- Execute formal procedures for company sickness inquiries, disciplinary meetings, and investigations.
- Gather real-time feedback for engineers and support them to drive improvements.
- Maintain an up-to-date skills matrix and develop cost justifications for training.

Reporting & escalation
- Provide updates on reactive/planned maintenance, breakdown reports, and any escalations to the Site Engineering Manager.
- Deposite as required at DRM3 meetings when the Site Engineering Manager is absent.
- Highlight critical business tasks in shift reports and handover documentation.
- Maintain visibility on major issues affecting task completion and costs.

Financial & operational control
- Work within procedural and financial boundaries set by the Site Engineering Manager.
- Report weekly budget adherence and communicate overtime needs for review.
- Deposite as the principal finance representative for Engineering spend under site limits.
- Ensure labour and overtime costs stay within the approved Engineering budget.
- Deposite for Site Engineering Manager in their absence.

Required Experience & Expertise
A must-have qualification/background:
- Electrical/Mechanical qualifications (NVQ Level 3 or equivalent).
- Proven experience as an Engineering Supervisor/Manager within the food industry sector.
- Expertise in change management, continuous improvement, and budgetary controls (both parts and labour).
Technical Considerations:
- IT-literate: Ability to generate reports based on departmental KPIs from multiple sources.
